Oswego Jiu-Jitsu Kids Round Robin Tournament
Oswego Jiu-Jitsu is excited to welcome young athletes to our Kids Round Robin Jiu-Jitsu Tournament on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Curtis Manor in Oswego, NY!
This Gi-only tournament is open to competitors ages 4–17 of all skill and belt levels.
Our goal is to create a fun, safe, organized, and low-pressure competition experience where kids can test their Jiu-Jitsu, build confidence, gain valuable mat experience, and most importantly — have fun competing!
Whether this is your child's first tournament or they're an experienced competitor, they're welcome on the mats.
🥋 Round Robin Format
This tournament will use a round-robin format designed to give athletes multiple matches whenever division size allows.
Competitors will be matched as closely as possible based on age, weight, rank, and experience.
Our priority is creating fair, competitive matchups while giving every athlete meaningful time on the mat.
⚖️ Mock Weigh-Ins: No Cutting Weight
Mock weigh-ins begin at 9:00 AM.
We do not want kids cutting weight or feeling unnecessary pressure about the number on the scale.
Weights will be used as a guide to help us create appropriate matchups alongside age, rank, and experience. There is no requirement to "make weight" at this event.
Please provide an accurate weight when registering so we can prepare the best possible divisions.
⏱️ Match Times
Ages 4–13: 3-minute matches
Ages 14–17: 4-minute matches
Competition begins at 10:00 AM.
🏆 Scoring
Matches will follow the Grappling Industries scoring system with small caveat — reversal points will be honored.
4 Points — Mount or Back Control
3 Points — Guard Pass
2 Points — Takedown, Sweep, or Knee-on-Belly
2 Points — Strong submission attempt interrupted because the competitors go out of bounds
2 Points — Reversal
Scoring positions must be established and controlled for 3 seconds.
There are no traditional advantage points for near takedowns, sweeps, passes, or submissions. A strong submission attempt stopped because the competitors go out of bounds may be awarded 2 points.
Matches may be won by submission or points, with ties handled by the referee. All decisions are final.
🚫 No Sideline Coaching
This one is about the kids.
There will be no coaching from the sidelines during matches. Parents, coaches, teammates, and spectators are encouraged to cheer and support the competitors, but technical instructions during matches will not be permitted.
We want young athletes to have the opportunity to trust their training, think for themselves, make their own decisions, and enjoy competing without the pressure of multiple voices telling them what to do.
Coaches are welcome to help their athletes prepare before and after their matches, but once they step onto the competition mat, the match belongs to the kids.
Cheer them on. Encourage them. Let them compete. Let them have fun.
🛡️ Safety & Rules
Athlete safety will always come first. Referees may stop a match whenever necessary to protect a young competitor.
This tournament will follow the Grappling Industries ruleset and age/rank-specific allowable technique guidelines.
Dangerous or prohibited techniques for the applicable youth division will not be permitted. Athletes, parents, and coaches are encouraged to review the official rules and allowable techniques before competition.

🥇 Medals for Every Competitor
Every participant will receive a medal.
Winning is great, but that's not the only reason we're here. Stepping onto the competition mat, challenging yourself, learning from your matches, and having the courage to compete are accomplishments worth recognizing.
We want every kid to leave the event proud of themselves and excited to compete again.
