About this event
Kick off the San Francisco Marathon, the iconic race located in California that yearly brings thousands of runners together around the Embarcadero and the city’s flagship neighborhoods. In addition to the classic marathon (42.195 km), seven events are offered: ultramarathon, half-marathons, 10 km and 5 km, featuring views of the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge and Crissy Field. The race takes place at the end of July, with temperatures typically ranging from 12 to 19 degrees on the West Coast.
Exterior 🎥. Night 🌙. Wide shot forward… 🎬
It's barely 5:15 here in San Francisco 🇺🇸. In the distance, a bridge is barely visible, the Bay Bridge. The fog is thick that day 🌁 but the ocean, usually churning, remains calm. The camera moves forward gradually, in sync with the music, approaching slowly the San Francisco Bay. The image becomes sharper. The San Francisco Bay is only a few meters from the lens. Suddenly, the camera freezes, the music stops and a loud burst of sound erupts. A crowd of runners surges right in front of you! Welcome to the San Francisco Marathon in California ! 📍
And… Action! Let's take three or four minutes to pitch you the San Francisco Marathon 🏃♂️. Founded in 1977, this race is a true monument of sport 🏛! The San Francisco Marathon is a bit the Alfred Hitchcock of running 🎬 🏃♂️. In short, it's one of the 7 wonders of the running world. The San Francisco Marathon takes place every year at the end of July. The weather should be ideal for running. Indeed, during that period on the West Coast of the United States, temperatures typically range between 12 and 19 degrees☀️. And this year, not one but seven races are on offer 🏅: a Ultra Marathon (84.3 km), a Full Marathon (42.195 km), two half marathons (21.1 km), a 10K race, and finally two 5K races.
And... Lights, camera! Action! The sun will barely be up when the start of the San Francisco Marathon will be given! ☀️ Your race will begin on the Embarcadero, the city’s waterfront, near the Bay Bridge 🌁. Then you’ll get to explore some of San Francisco’s most beautiful neighborhoods like Fisherman’s Wharf ⚓️, a famous district home to the Maritime Museum and many crab-specialized restaurants! 🦀 You’ll also discover Marina Green, a wide public park offering breathtaking panoramas of the Golden Gate Bridge 🌁. Plus, you’ll traverse Crissy Field, a former U.S. Army airfield, now a recreational area. At Crissy Field, you’ll find plenty of marshes, restaurants and even a beach ! 🏝️ Finally, you’ll have the privilege of crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, a legendary span made famous by films like Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock, Hulk or Terminator. If you’re lucky, you’ll cross this bridge at sunrise… The view will be stunning! Get your camera ready! 🌅 Finally, you’ll pass by the Chase Center, an arena that hosts, among others, Stephen Curry’s basketball team, the Golden State Warriors! 🏀
San Francisco Marathon is now over 40 years old! It brings together thousands of people each year. Whereas in 1977, the first edition hosted only 900 runners! By the way, you’ll need to hang on if you want to beat the records! Indeed, the record for the San Francisco Marathon is held by Simeon Kigen, who finished the race in 2 hours 10 minutes and 18 seconds ! 🏅
And… Cut 🎬! What, is it already over? No! There are still things to discover in San Francisco. In fact, if you take a few days to explore this incredible city, we first recommend visiting the Golden Gate Bridge 🌁, a true symbol of the city offering fabulous panoramas (especially at sunrise 🌞) over the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean 🌊. You can also head to Fisherman’s Wharf 🐟, where you might spot some sea lions soaking up the sun 🦭 or visit one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood to savor a lobster 🦞 or even crab! 🦀 Finally, we suggest ending your road trip with a visit to the SFMOMA 🎨, one of the most important contemporary art museums in the United States! 🇺🇸
And… End credits for the Marathon shoot! 🎬
