Join the Garden State Judo Classic 2027 in Madison (New Jersey) at Fairleigh Dickinson University. A USA Judo sanctioned competition with 5 tatami zones and an online scoring system via Smoothcomp. Wagons: weigh-ins on Saturday, competitions on Sunday, April 11, 2027, registrations and modified IJF rules. Open to USA Judo and ATJA members, with medals and prize presentation.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: USA Judo & ATJA Members
WHAT RULES: Modified IJF rules will be used. No armbars in all Novice and Junior Divisions except Cadet Advance & IJF Junior Advance, Black Belt & Brown Belt Div. Chokes allowed in Juvenile, Cadet, IJF Jr., Senior Black Belt, Brown Belt, Adult Novice & Veterans Under 50. We ask that all junior and novice competitors have a properly fit white Judo gi and bring a white and blue belt that fits properly. Cadet, IJF Junior & Senior Elite must have a properly fitted White and Blue Judo Gi.
AWARDS: Medals for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place & Best Team Award
Scoring System: Round Robin For Divisions 5 Person and Below 6 & Above True Double.
Tournament System: Online Registration, Weigh-ins, Bracketing, Scoring, Livestreaming and Results Will Be Run On Smoothcomp Event Page

(NO WEIGH-INS FOR ANYONE ON SUNDAY, APR 12, 2026 & ALL COMPETITORS THAT WEIGHS IN ON SATURDAY MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED ONLINE, ONE LAST IMPORTANT NOTICE. WE WILL CLOSE REGISTRATION TO THE TOURNAMENT AT 650 COMPETITORS. IF THAT HAPPENS THERE IS NO WAY INTO REGISTRATION ONLINE. WE’VE SOLD OUT FOR THE PAST EVENTS. PLEASE REGISTER AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

- 9am Bantams Followed By Intermediate Then Juvenile Divisions

- Black Belts Elite Men & Women Divisions Follow IJF Jr.
- Brown Belt Will Follow Black Belts
- Collegiate Division Will Follow Brown Belts
- Novice & Veterans Will Follow Brown Belt

Mat Area: The tournament will use 5 mat areas with Smoothcomp scoreboards along with the CARE system.
Judo Gi: Blue & White Gi are required for all CADET Advance, IJF JUNIOR Advance, SENIOR ELITE BLACK BELT & BROWN BELT. All other divisions must have a White Judo Gi with a White & Blue Belt that properly fits. Official IJF Back patches are not required.
MINOR ATHLETE ABUSE PREVENTION POLICY (MAAPP)
The Center for SafeSport has developed the Minor Athlete Prevention Policies (MAAPP) which USA Judo has adapted to our own sport. The MAAPP is a collection of proactive and training policies comprised of two parts; Education & Training Policy that requires training for certain Adult Participants and the Required Prevention Policies, focused on limiting one-on-one interactions between Adult Participants and Minor Athletes to prevent abuse.
