About this event
In Greece, in Athens, this mythological marathon offers a course across the Attica plain with a finish at the Panathenaic Stadium. In November, enjoy mild weather between 12°C and 18°C to cover the 5 km, the 5 km night run, the 10 km, or the beating heart distance. runners from around the world come to experience sport and discover the landscapes and Greek hospitality around the Acropolis and Pláka.
It’s in Greece 🇬🇷, in the Nikos Aliagas, in one of the oldest cities in the world, in Athens📍, where we gather for a mythological race **mythological**. The largest city and capital of the country, it spans the Attic plain (nothing to do with the French rapper who played in Validé), dominated by the Aeolia mountains (that’s apparently pronounced), Parnès
Amateur myth lovers of myths, tales, and legends, let us tell you the story of this marathon. The headliner isn’t Zeus ⚡️, Poseidon 🔱 or even Odysseus 🏹, but a certain Eucles. A legendary runner sent to Athens, after the Battle of Marathon 📍, to announce his people’s victory over the Persian barbarians, on 13 September 490 BC. And, cock-a-doodle-doo 🐓, the name “marathon” is what it is today thanks to our Pierre de Coubertin national 🇫🇷. It was this French historian who, in reviving the Olympic Games in 1894, introduced, from the first edition ☝️, a new running event over roughly forty kilometers, i.e. the distance between the city of Marathon and Athens. It’s thus a historic city-to-city tale waiting for you 😍. Now that you know basically everything about this story 🤓, we can close this aside and focus on our event ⬇️.
On the agenda, you’ll enjoy a 5 km route, a nocturnal 5 km, a 10 km, and a marathon. All of these races finish at the ancient Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, where the first Olympic Games modern Olympics took place in 1896. Restored several times, notably for the 2004 Olympic Games (the year when the national team won the Euro football title for the only time in its history ⚽️), it hosted more than 30,000 people for the archery events and for the finish of the two marathons 🏁. In short, these are runners from all over the world 🌎 who are expected each year to participate in the most mythical of marathons. In addition to the sporting experience, you’ll have the chance to discover the magnificent landscapes of Greece and the warm hospitality of its people 😁. Children will also get their moment of glory with a 1.2 km 🐣.
If you want to extend your weekend, we can recommend the must-see rocky plateau of the Acropolis, rising at the heart of the city of Athens and its museum 🖼️. And since you’re there, don’t miss the must-see “home of the virgins”, the Parthenon 🏛️, which is a true Greek treasure. Down the slopes of the Acropolis, get lost in the narrow streets of the old district of Pláka, where you’ll find souvenir shops 🏺 and restaurants 🍴. It’s a perfect segue to talk about the country’s culinary specialties and the choriatiki, for example, the tzatziki 🥒, or the tarama (the real recipe).
Alas, that’s the end of this article… But we’ll be back soon with another odyssey! 😉
