From the heart of Belgian Wallonia, Charleroi hosts the third edition of the Charleroi Metropolitan International Marathon with four distances to choose from: marathon (42 km), half marathon, 10 km and 5 km. The course combines Wrave and Halage amidst entertainment, full aid stations, and a start at Bois de Cazier to honor the vanished miners. Charleroi, a green and festive city, offers an accessible route through the city center and its surroundings, between heritage and nature.
Finally a breath of fresh air! 💇♀️ Straight from Belgium, to Charleroi, in the heart of Wallonia, the Charleroi Metropolitan Marathon! Between us, you can simply call it Charleroi Marathon. On the menu, four distances : a legendary marathon of 42 km that is balanced and appetizing and a half-marathon, always there to accompany its double 😉, a 10 km and a 5 km 🌱.
This third edition 🥉 is shaping up to be historic for Charleroi: the city is blowing out its 360 candles! 💪 It’s simple, the organizers went all out with a focus on local actors 👩🌾 and the heritage that is rich and vast 🏤. The motto: an accessible route and as little monotony as possible! 🏃♂️ For that, they’ve arranged a course along the paths of Wrave 🌳 and Haling 🛶 with some animations 🤪 all along as well as full aid stations. Yummy! 🍌 In addition to running through the city center, you’ll also be invited to discover the surroundings, more rural and quirky! The start is in the Bois de Cazier in memory of miners lost in the disaster 🕯️. So grab your bib quickly to pay tribute to the city and to those who shaped its history 🎽.
When you know that Charleroi, the largest city in Wallonia, is also the greenest city ☘️, it’s hard not to want to visit! If you didn’t know, there are still 17 parks and 37 km of hedges! 🌿 It’s amazing to learn that its nickname is the "Pays Noir"! But it has nothing to do with the scenery; it’s simply because of the old coal mines 🔦 that began to disappear in the 60s. Even if you won’t explore an old mine, you’ll have things to admire. If the Belgians can boast about their renowned comics 📓, many pencil virtuosos originate from Charleroi 👨🎨. Their iconic characters adorn the city with statues. Plus, in June, you’re in for decent weather ☀️. Especially if you come to run a great marathon... 🌬️
To cap things off, Charleroi is a festive city 🌈. There’s always something to celebrate, between the “Fête de l’Amour” 💌, the “Fête des Mouettes” 🐦, “Bien le Bonjour de la Pédale”... 🚴♀️ The Charleroi International Marathon won’t bore you! 👯♀️
