Joyful and patriotic race held every May 2 in Warsaw at Kępa Potocka Park (Żoliborz), blending competition and celebration of Polish symbols. Flat and fast course, ideal for everyone, with children’s distances (100–800 m) and a start/finish near ul. Krasińskiego and Wybrzeże Gdyńskie. After the effort, a family picnic, a sweet treat on Wilson Square, and a stroll along the Vistula conclude this friendly day.
It’s one of the most joyful and patriotic races in the capital, held every year on May 2, on the occasion of Poland’s Republic Flag Day! The event takes place in the heart of the Kępa Potocka Park in Żoliborz, which, for a day, fills with hundreds of runners wearing national colors. It’s a race with a mission: combining athletic competition with a joyful celebration of Polish national symbols in a stunning natural setting, right beside Żoliborz’s small canal.
The course winds along the paved and concrete paths of Kępa Potocka Park. It is flat and very fast, though it can be winding, which gives it some dynamism. The start and finish are usually near the entrance on ul. Krasińskiego and Wybrzeże Gdyńskie. The event is also very family-friendly! Younger participants can test themselves on shorter distances (from 100 m to 800 m), and the emotion that accompanies their starts is often stronger than at the main race.
What to do after the start?
Family picnic on the Kępa: The event is always accompanied by a May Day picnic. After your start, you can lay out a blanket on the grass, enjoy the food stalls, and soak up the sun in one of Varsovians’ favorite relaxation spots. 🌳🧺
Ice cream on the Thomas Woodrow Wilson Square : Kępa Potocka Park is just a short stroll from the iconic glaciers around Wilson Square. It’s the perfect way to refuel and cool off after a lively race. 🍦☀️
A stroll along the Vistula : If your legs need a gentle recovery, you can cross to the other side of Wybrzeże Gdyńskie and keep walking along the Vistula, taking in views of the river. 🌊🚶♂️
Żoliborz gastronomy: The neighborhood is known for its breakfast cafes and charming coffee shops. After the race, it’s worth stopping by ul. Mickiewicza or Wojska Polskiego for a well-deserved brunch – local waffles or bagels will have you back on your feet in no time! ☕🥯
