About this event
Patriotic sports celebration in Opole, the Opole Independence Run brings together professionals and amateurs on November 11 in a white-and-red atmosphere. A fast, flat 10 km course (with a 5 km option) crosses the Oder banks and the historic center, under a hymn sung at the start and unique commemorative medals. After the finish, hot tea and a stroll in Opole’s Venice and along the quays for souvenir photos.
Get ready for an incredibly patriotic, joyful, and high-energy sports party! Opole Independence Run is one of the most important and most attended running events in the capital of Polish song. On November 11, the streets of Opole transform into a sea of white and red, racing at full speed, where professionals chasing seconds stand shoulder to shoulder with amateurs, families with children, and seniors.
The program’s highlight is usually a fast, flat, certified route 10 km (often with the option to choose a shorter distance, e.g., 5 km), ideal for chasing new personal records at the end of the season. The course winds through Opole’s most charming corners, including the Oder embankments and the historic center. The true hallmark of the race remains its incredible atmosphere: a sea of white and red flags, commemorative T-shirts in national colors, the anthem proudly sung before the start, and unique commemorative medals each year that reference independence symbols.
Once you cross the finish line, warmed by a mug of hot tea and with your medal proudly around your neck, Opole invites you to celebrate properly and head out for a recovery stroll:
Opole’s Venice and the Oder embankments: located just steps from the city center. The picturesque townhouses reflecting in the Młynówka canal create an incredibly romantic atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful cooldown after the buzz of the start and for souvenir photos with the medal 🌊📸.
Pasieka Island and Piast Tower: Opole’s green heart. You can stroll near the legendary Millennial Amphitheater (where the Polish National Song Festival takes place) and admire the proud Piast Tower – one of the oldest monuments of its kind in Poland, a symbol of the city 🏰.
Opole Market Square: A stunning square surrounded by restored townhouses, dominated by a monumental Florentine-style town hall (inspired by the Palazzo Vecchio). On a November afternoon, the cafés and restaurants here entice with a warm and cozy atmosphere 🏙️☕.
The traditional Rogal Świętomarciński and a Silesian lunch: November 11 isn’t just Independence Day; it’s also St. Martin’s Day! After burning hundreds of calories on the course, you’re fully entitled to savor a delicious sweet poppy seed croissant guilt-free. And if you crave something heartier, a traditional Silesian rouladen with kluski and red cabbage at an Opole restaurant will have you back on your feet in minutes 🥐🍽️.
The Polish Song Museum: If you still crave culture, this modern multimedia museum, located inside the amphitheater, lets you travel back in time and listen to Poland’s biggest hits. A fantastic treat for the whole family 🎵.
The Opole Independence Run is more than just sport: a beautiful lesson in modern patriotism, an extraordinary integration of the local community, and a fantastic way to bid farewell to the running season in a great atmosphere … ✨ Celebrate freedom by running in Opole! 🏁🇵🇱
