Trail des Buttons

You love nature, wild lands and trails? Then you’re in the right place! Rosnay, a small village in Indre (Centre-Val de Loire) nestled in the heart of la Brenne and its regional natural park of the same name, welcomes you for a superb nature trail. Not far from Châteauroux and in the former Berry province, it’s the perfect spot to admire wild nature. The event of the Trail des Buttons takes place in May, which typically guarantees relatively favorable weather with temperatures usually between 15 and 19 degrees at that time. Four races are offered to you: two trails of 9km including one canicross (accompanied by your dog 🦮), then two more trails of 16km and 28km. An important note: here it isn’t the Button War! This trail aims to be "good vibes" and "fun" in order to share a good moment of sport and life together in the 36. It’s the ideal race for new trail runners who’d like to test themselves on a beautiful natural course!

Speaking of the landscape, right? If you haven’t heard of the Brenne regional natural park, you’re missing out. It’s a true wild paradise made up of large green areas dotted with ponds (there are more than 2,000 in total). The Trail des Buttons, as its name suggests, will take you to the summits of these buttons (don’t worry, it’s not the Himalayas, just beautiful granite hills) from where you can admire the many ponds surrounding you. During your race, according to legend, you’ll follow the footsteps of the ogre Gargantua who, while cleaning his boots, formed these mysterious buttons. While others talk about erosion of geological layers due to the melting glaciers of the Massif Central (you can take that as you will 🤣). Besides the Buttons, you’ll wander through the tangle of ponds in the region, and it’s breathtaking! Among the many highlights of the race: the Étang Massé, the Blizon, the Temple, Rochefort, the Village of Loup, the Bouchet ! But where there are ponds, there’s water! And where there’s water, there’s a good chance you’ll get your feet wet (or a little more if you take a wrong turn #Splash).

In the air and on the ground, you’re also likely to spot numerous migratory birds that have made it their breeding ground: Crested Crake, the White-tailed Eagle, the Aquatic Warblers, the Great Bittern, the Great Egret, the Woodchat Shrike, the Whiskered Tern, the Purple Heron, or the Reed Harrier (we’ll stop there). How is it that you don’t know them all 😱? You’ll have to study up on that 😉

In the homeland of Gérard Depardieu, at the end of your race, enjoy as in Asterix and Obelix a bowl of magical potion…. Hmm, no, green Berry lentils, followed by a little bite of Pouligny-Saint-Pierre cheese, a goat cheese typical of the department.
