In the heart of Auvergne, in the village of Chambon-sur-lac (Puy-de-Dôme), the Sancy Trail by Aupa Outdoor takes place in June and offers much more than a race: a crossing of the Green Valley with competitive mountain biking and technical routes providing views of the Sancy massif and Lake Chambon. Three distances – 13.5 km night race, 24 km and 40 km – allow you to fully enjoy this unique setting, surrounded by alpine flora and immersive landscapes with Sensi Trails for the entertainment.
Want a green vibe? Head to Auvergne! The Sancy Trail by Aupa Outdoor takes place in June in the Puy-de-Dôme, in the village of Chambon-sur-lac. And the gathering isn’t just about the race, « crossing the Green Valley » in its full name, is a multi- terrain event that also welcomes competitive MTB 🚴♀️. The chance to try several activities and maybe discover (why not) a biker’s spirit. Good news also, the Puy-de-Dôme in June usually brings favorable weather, so wouldn’t you like a slice of Chambon?
Let’s talk routes. The courses are technical, but the views from the summits of the Sancy Massif, and also over the Lac de Chambon. You’ll run through the Chaudefour Valley Natural Reserve, with some of the most beautiful spots in Auvergne. Your feet will tread on a variety of terrains throughout the race at an astonishing pace—let us know how it treats you. Three distances to soak in this unique scenery (yep): the « Chambon Trail » and its 13.5 km in the dark, the « Chambon Snow and Lake » 24 km and finally the « Chambon Sancy Trail » and its 40 km. No matter which you choose, it’ll be the right one.
The Sancy Massif is known for its grand alpine flora, but also for its two sharp dykes with evocative names: Dent de la Rancune (you won’t hold it against them 😆) and Crête du Coq. Unless you’re from around here, the landscapes will feel delightfully unfamiliar, guaranteed. And since a unique experience isn’t complete without a meet-the-third-kind moment, you might encounter chamois, ermine but also mouflons. Plus, we’ve even picked the band that will pace your steps: Sensi Trails, a perfect fit 🎶 .
For post-race, the area is totally worth a look, with the Auvergne volcanos on the other side of the massif and the Chastreix-Sancy National Nature Reserve Clermont. Family-friendly visits to enjoy the unique and wild setting.
