Mont Fuji International Marathon

You might know the Mt. Fuji by name, by view, or you may have already seen some of its works, like the legendary "Great Wave off Kanagawa", or you might catch a glimpse of it in the background ... 🌊 but do you really know what it represents? This massive stone volcanic monument is one of the country's iconic symbols, drawing curious minds from all over the world 👀. Not surprising that the bravest athletes eventually decided to run marathons there 🤦‍♂️. As if 42 km weren't enough, some clever folks thought they'd add another 140 mD+, just to really give the legs a workout 😅.

But let's start at the beginning. The Mt Fuji International Marathon takes place every year in November in the town of Fujikawaguchiko, in the Japan. If you ever struggle to remember the town's name, you can think of the "Mt. Fuji Marathon", it works just as well 😂. The course circles the Kawaguchi Lake and offers endless views of the mountain range. You could almost be persuaded to do a second lap 🔄. This mountain is one of the most famous in the world and has inspired music, cinema, and art. The Sixteen Views of Mount Fuji by K. Hokusai are perfect examples 🖼️. You might now better understand why this lump of earth feels like a familiar old friend even if you’ve never stood there 👣. On-site, the trails weave between the crimson maples and the calm shores of the lake in an atmosphere that’s both festive and soothing 🧘. The splendor of Yamanashi meets the passion of locals and spectators who’ve come for the occasion 📣. Up high, perched at 3 776 meters above sea level, the volcano dominates the valley and offers a unique backdrop for runners 🌋. Fortunately for participants, eruption risks are virtually nil, since the last activity was recorded in 1707 😳. It’s in this setting that 3 courses bring together thousands of runners each year from all backgrounds: 10k performers, lovers of scenic views on 17 km or endurance runners on the marathon : there’s something for everyone, and that’s what makes the event so strong 🏃. At the Mt Fuji International Marathon, anyone can find a challenge that fits them 📏.

But even though the landscapes are pleasant and green, it isn’t a walk in the park. The course is hilly and mixes woods with urban sections, blending Japanese nature and modernity japanese. Don’t get swept up by the sparkling lakes and surrounding mountain scenery, the clock is ticking and competitors are ruthless ⚔️. It’s a unique way to challenge 💪. To keep innovating and drawing more people, the organizers also added in 2026 two new playful formats: the "Fuji View Walk" and the "Fuji View Run". The first is a 4 km walk, and the second features 4 km and 8 km runs, more urban and less competitive than their counterparts. Ideal for commuters who might get a spur of the moment motivation to work the quads without ending up with battered lungs 🥵. Plus, once the race is over, the area is full of small restaurants and typical dishes to recharge ⚡️.
