La course de 16 miles présente un dénivelé positif de plus de 3 500 pieds, atteignant un point culminant à 10 420 pieds, tandis que le 50 km affiche un dénivelé positif d'environ 5 500 pieds, avec de longues portions à 10 000 pieds ou plus. La plupart des montées pour les deux distances se concentrent sur les 12 premiers kilomètres, ce qui exige force et endurance dès le départ. Le parcours commence et se termine à la station de ski de Steamboat, puis monte jusqu'au sommet de la station, le 50 km continuant jusqu'à Long Lake.
