The Portet Challenge is a road race in Saint-Lary-Soulan, right in the heart of the Pyrenees, pushing you to conquer mythical summits on tarmac. Three formats are available: a 42.2 km marathon linking Saint-Lary to Col du Portet, a 21.1 km half marathon, and a 10 km descent from Pla d’Adet, with return by cable car. The Portet Challenge is a road race that should make your summer vibe 🔆. Get ready to push your limits to climb one of the mythical peaks 🏔️ of the Pyrenees range, and all on tarmac 🛣️. So head to the PyreneesSaint-Lary-Soulan 🏘️, this small winter ski resort whose valley is also the must-see hiking spot in summer 🥾. Sorry to disappoint you, but The Portet Challenge is not a stroll 😅. You’ll indeed need your legs, but also an iron will 🦾 to face one of the three events. The rule is clear, either you go up, or you go down, or you do both ! 🤓
Three formats are on the program, so pick your favorite 😎. If you’re not short on ambition, gear up for grandeur with the marathon, the ultimate weekend challenge. 42.2 km to connect Saint-Lary to the summit of the Col du Portet ⬆️. Average gradient: 8.32% but 100% enjoyment! 😍 This out-and-back will make your legs feel the lactic acid lactic acid kick in 🦵. This complete race combines intense effort and technique 💪. You’re ambitious but not totally crazy 🤪, so share the distance with your favorite teammate 👫. Two together goes faster and you’ll have fewer sore muscles 😂. The relay will take place at Espiaube so everyone can ascend and descend fairly ☝️. If your thing is more about climbing 📈, the half-marathon is for you. This 21.1 km route links Saint-Lary to the summit of the Col du Portet. Your mission is simple: go up 🪜. You’ll go from 830 m above sea level to 2 215 m, which means 1 440 mD+. Beware your calves will be smoking, but not your mind we hope 🧠. For the return, it’s gondola lift 🚠 that does the trick and your legs will be the first to enjoy it 😌. Third and final option on offer: the 10 km. If you have the urge to make your hip abductors scream, go for it because it’s all downhill from the legendary Pla d’Adet. A hub for cycling, Pla d’Adet in Gascon means “plateau where even the sheep hesitate to climb” 🐑. If even that doesn’t scare you, then you can break out the tiger balm 🐅 because your muscles will roar for this challenge 🔥. And to spice things up and make the race even wilder, it’s a half-night event 🌘.
