About this event
The Trail of the Windmill is blowing its 20th edition in Les Sauvages, a village perched at an altitude of 700 meters. Organized by EOL, it offers three routes depending on your level: Duo Challenge 2x4 km (130 mD+), Little Challenge 16 km (600 mD+), and Grand Challenge 23 km (940 mD+), among forests and ridges of the Tarare Mountains. Start Saturday afternoon with a meal provided and a friendly atmosphere for the whole family.

The Trail de l’Éolienne is turning 20 this May, and it’s likely to blow you away as much as the towering wind turbines perched on the ridges! ⛰️ Head to Les Sauvages, a charming village perched at 700 metres above sea level 📈 between Roanne, Lyon and Tarare, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, where your calves will suddenly realize they should have trained more this winter 🥶.
Organized by the EOL (Entente Ouest Lyonnais Athlétisme) this trail offers a great program 📆. Three routes await depending on your level of enthusiasm (or training 🤫). First, you have the "Duo Challenge 2 x 4 km" and its 130 mD+ to share the effort and the fun. Next, you can opt for the "Little 16 km Challenge" and its 600 mD+, to test yourself on the crêtes des Monts de Tarare, or the "Grand 23 km Challenge" and its 940 mD+ if you love a challenge and want a feast for the eyes 💥. Here, you’ll run through forests, trails, single tracks and jaw-dropping panoramas 🏞️: from the Alps to the Pilat and via the Monts du Forez, you’ll find yourself slowing down just to take in the surroundings, pretending to “catch your breath” 🤥. With a Saturday afternoon start, you’ll enjoy the beautiful May light 🌞, and above all, a post-race meal on us ("ahhhh that’s awesome 🤪"). The support crews won’t be forgotten either since you can sign them up to join at the table 👯. After all, you’ll need someone to listen to your heroic stories of endless climbs and “controlled” descents 👀. The Trail de l’ÉOLienne, a family-friendly and sociable event where you come to run, and stay for the vibe 🤩.
Once you cross the finish line, collect your medal and enjoy your meal, it’s time to recover 🧖. You can wander the Village des Sauvages 🌱, or take a trip to Lyon. The gastronomy capital opens its arms wide 😋. Traboules, Lyonnais bouchonscentre historique, Musée des Confluencesvisit Fourvières…You won’t be short of activities 🥵. And trust us, Lyonnaise specialties will wipe out your sore muscles in a snap thanks to their generosity 🪄: quenellessaucissons briochécervelle de canutpraluline…(well, it originated in Roanne but still 😌), you’ll be-GREAT 😵💫.
