L'Edition Zero Gravel est un véritable test pour les cyclistes de gravel, organisé à Waimate, dans l'arrière-pays sauvage de la Nouvelle-Zélande. Les athlètes peuvent s'attendre à des ascensions raides, un terrain technique, du gravier frais et des traversées de cours d'eau difficiles. Le parcours emprunte des routes de gravier profondes, isolées et peu fréquentées, mettant les coureurs à rude épreuve avec de longues ascensions soutenues et de longues portions en solo où l'autonomie, l'endurance et les compétences en orientation sont essentielles. L'assistance sur le parcours étant limitée, les cyclistes doivent se préparer à la course la plus difficile de leur carrière. L'événement s'articule autour du vélodrome historique de 1891, qui accueille un village de course favorisant un fort esprit de camaraderie et les festivités d'après-course, le tout dans le cadre spectaculaire des paysages de l'Île du Sud.
