The Chartreuse, it’s not just a liqueur, did you know? 😆

Nope! It’s also a wonderful pré-Alpine massif and a regional natural park located in Isère, in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes 🏔. It’s in this vast green area that about 2,000 plants are harvested to prepare this spirit. You might even get to pick some during your stay for a little foraging 🧺. It’s best to plan your visit around May when the Raidlight Trail Festival, a perfect season for a big sporting challenge under spring temperatures 🌸. Interested? Great! But first, let us tell you about the distances (numerous and varied) that await ⬇.

To fully enjoy this vast mountainous area, you can choose from 7 events offered by the organizers. And good news: it’s suitable for all levels ! 👏 The lineup includes: "The Vertical Kilometer" (also known as KMV for the insiders 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨). The shortest distance of 4 km might mislead you, because it’s a much tougher challenge than you think! With 900 mD+, you’ll climb cliffs to reach the destination 🧗‍♀️. Good news for climbing fans! The "Festi'Trail" comes next with its 16 km. If you’re not feeling like running, you can still walk by taking part in the "Festi'Rando". Then comes the "Semi Trail" with 24 km, the "Sky Trail" and its 27 km of effort and finally the "Maratour" and its 47 km. For the 2024 edition, the Raidlight Trail Festival presents its new addition, the "Trail Tour". 33 km for 2 100 mD+, hang on tight! Regarding the scenery, it’s the Chartreuse Limestone Massif and its regional natural park of more than 76 000 hectares of pristine nature 🪶.

The site is classified as Natura 2000, which guarantees an outstanding heritage and biodiversity 🌳. In a very forested setting, you’ll pass through spruce forests, maples and may encounter some of the region’s residents: chamois, deer 🦌 or many birds 🦅. The unique feature of the place is its white limestone cliffs set in this green cocoon. Watch out for vertigo! 🤯,Chartreuse is technically demanding and has some fairly steep slopes. The elevations are quite significant, so wait until the finish to savor your Chartreuse 🍷, because the liqueur/cliff pairing could give you the chills 😅. Just stick to running in the deep forests and let yourself be overwhelmed by the beauty of the surrounding landscape 🤩

All weekend long, the organizers offer yoga workshops to help you unwind, perfect for post-race relaxation and reclaiming that zen attitude 🧘. We recommend extending your visit to the Chartreuse after the event with visits to the Saint-Christophe caves, the Cirque de Sainte-Même or exploring the Gorges du Guiers Vif 🔦. After all that, you can finally enjoy the region’s gastronomic culture (😜)!
