Grand Trail du Lac

You’ll be left breathless in every sense of the word with this trail demanding and technical with stunning landscapes. On the Grand Trail of Lac, come and admire the largest natural lake in France in Bourget-du-Lac in Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Discover the famous lac du Bourget for a race by the lake that's truly exceptional. It’s in the heart of the Jura mountains, in October, that you’ll start on one of the two distances offered: the 34 km with 2100 md+ at the start from the medieval village of Chanaz and the 72 km with its 3500 md+ that you can do solo or in a 4-person relay and which will have you start at night from Bourget-du-Lac. 🏞️

The 34 km will take you on a half-loop of the Lacand the grand event will allow you to complete its full circuit, it won’t be a walk in the park! Whatever distance you choose, you’re about to discover sumptuous views of the Lac, you’ll tread varied and single-track paths, ridges and the numerous technical sections that will fill your course. As for the environment you’ll run in, you’ll pass through several forests 🌲, walk around or climb several mounts like the Molard Noir (not a very appetising name) or the col du Chat (that one’s nicer) ⛰️. You’ll especially pass through the villages of Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille and will climb to the Belvédère d'Ontex. It’s an insane course for a Finisher who’s raring to go!

As you’ve guessed, this trail isn’t for beginners and you’ll probably end up sweating, but the payoff is huge! It’s especially the surrounding massif and the Mont-Blanc in the backdrop that will sweep you into a parallel world, surrounded by the friendly atmosphere of this Grand Trail of Lac Bourget. 🤗

Besides the race, the seaside town of Aix-les-Bains is very close. It offers a stunning lake view, of course, but also well-equipped beaches and a unique architectural heritage with the Hautecombe Royal Abbey. ⛪

On the gastronomy side, you won’t go hungry with lake specialties like the crayfish, the shadow chevalier, or the ferret And if you’re more into land, there’s the Savoy omelette and Matouille, a traditional dish made with tomme de Bauges. 😋
