La Great Naseby Water Race est l'un des ultramarathons les plus remarquables de Nouvelle-Zélande. Elle se déroule chaque année le dernier week-end d'août dans la région de Central Otago. Basée à Naseby, la ville la plus haute du pays à 600 mètres d'altitude, la course se déroule sur un circuit en forme de huit de 10 km combinant des routes de gravier, des pistes forestières et des sections longeant le canal historique Water Race construit dans les années 1860, à l'époque de l'exploitation aurifère. Les distances vont de 50 km à 200 miles (322 km), les coureurs effectuant le nombre de tours correspondant. Le format est conçu pour tester l'endurance à tous les niveaux, avec des options en solo et en équipe et des temps limites qui exigent un rythme régulier et de la détermination. Bien que les dénivelés soient modérés, la répétition, la diversité des terrains et les conditions hivernales créent un défi qui attire les coureurs d'ultra-marathon de toute la Nouvelle-Zélande et d'ailleurs.
