The Iceman Race of Przesieka brings runners together amidst the snowy landscapes of the Karkonosze, with an itinerary of about 10 km where the regulatory attire is limited to a pair of shorts, a hat, and gloves. Between icy winds and demanding climbs, participants tackle the heat of the challenge before savoring a comforting feast and the winter magic of Przesieka and its surroundings.
Do you have a bit of a frost-loving streak in you and aren’t afraid of chilly challenges? The Iceman Run of Przesieka is a cult winter event for runners who, instead of warm leggings, choose… swimsuits! The race takes place in Przesieka, in the Karkonosze – the legendary Polish capital of winter baths.
Participants must cover an approximate 10 km, through charming yet demanding Karpathsian climbs. The biggest trap? The official attire is limited to a pair of shorts (or a swimsuit for women), a cap, gloves, and running shoes. A icy wind, snow, and frost make it an incredible test of character and endurance. Przesieka is ideally located near Jelenia Góra, from which you can reach it easily by car or local transport 🚗.
After warming your body at the finish line and picking up a unique trophy, it’s worth staying longer in the Karkonosze, because Przesieka and its surroundings offer a wealth of magical spots, perfect for a romantic weekend or a family outing:
Winter bath at the Podgórna Cascade: This is the impressive triple waterfall of 10 meters high, a real mecca for Polish “frosty” enthusiasts. Even if you don’t dare enter the ice-cold water, just seeing the frozen falls makes a huge impression 🌊.
A stroll to the mysterious Siruwia Japanese Garden: The nearby, highest perched Japanese garden in Poland delights with its cascades, meticulously pruned greenery, and an atmospheric architecture that in winter takes on a magical feel ⛩️.
Ascend the Chojnik Castle: Majestic medieval fortress ruins crown the summit of a steep hill in the nearby Sobieszów. Hiking up to the castle is a great recovery workout, and the view of the Karkonosze from the tower will take your breath away 🏰.
A comforting feast, true to the Karkonosze vibe: After running in just a short, you’ll really want to warm up. The huts and inns of the Sudetes will treat you to a thick kwaśnica, garlic goulash that warms you up, and hot tea “with electricity” or honey 🍲.
Leave your warm clothes at the depot, run to tame the frost, and become a true Iceman in Przesieka!
