The triathlon kicks off in the open sea, with 1.9 km of swimming in the calm, warm waters of the Gulf of Oman, just steps from the Qurum Beach: a stretch so loved it was named the third-best swimming course in the entire EMEA region in 2023 🌊. Next up is the bike to 90 km of riding along the coastline before heading inland, through rolling hills and punishing climbs 😬. The course brushes past iconic city landmarks like the Royal Opera House or the Mutrah Souk, before crossing the edges of the Al-Alam Palace. All that remains is the run: 21.1 km on a flat, rolling profile that snakes through the Qurum Natural Park: finishing at the eponymous beach, with an almost splash-in finish 🏃.

On the numbers side, the growth is impressive. From a handful of pioneers in 2018, the event now welcomes more than 6,000 triathletes at the 2029 World Championship 📈. Muscat thus joins the exclusive club of host cities for this global meeting, alongside Nice, St. George, Taupō or Marbella ☀️. The event also qualifies for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship and offers the option Flex90, which lets athletes choose their start window ⏰. Few regional races boast this, along with an official ranking among the best bodies of water in the Middle East: an argument Muscat has cultivated with care since 2023 😌.

The thermometer is one of the date’s biggest assets: in February, the air sits around 26°C in the afternoon and hardly drops below 18°C at night, while the water hovers around 22°C 🌡.
