Trail de l'Aber Wrac'h

Have you ever heard about the Abers? These shorelines of the land enrich the “coast of legends.” There are three of them in Brittany, clustered in Finistère, and their landscapes shift with the tides, giving each a unique character.

It’s in this unparalleled setting that you’ll kick off in April across one of five distances of the Aber Wrac’h trail. And if your knees aren’t totally shot (by the way, it’s pronounced the Aber “Vrac”), choose the distance that matches your abilities from the discovery trails (the Funny Trail 9 km and the Fun Trail 15 km), the short trails (the Hermine Trail 22 km and the Half Trail 29 km) or the behemoth named the Extreme Trail 57 km. The latter is the flagship race of this sporting event and will let you race up the entire Aber Wrac’h with the tides. Organized by the small town of Folgoët which means “crazy about woods” in Breton, we advise you not to get lost 🌲.

Did we scare you? Stay here, come on, the course is epic just like the start. For the 57 km, for example, you’ll start on Enez Croas Hent Island surrounded by flares in an epic atmosphere! 🎇 You’ll then cross wide stretches of beach between fishing boats, seaweed, rocks without forgetting the beautiful lighthouse of Île Vierge 🌊. But no matter the distance you cover, you’ll be captivated by the uniqueness of the course: stop by inns to access refuels, creep through a tunnel in the woods where you’ll crawl (if claustrophobic, jog uphill to bypass this winding passage), or run along a river while clinging to a bridge wall… In short, this trail is full of surprises that will make you fall in love with this nature-friendly race that blends sea, greenery and sore muscles.

And to capture even more memories, before you take off, stop by the city emblem: the basilica Notre-Dame du Folgoët ⛪. Then wander the picturesque streets of the village of Meneham, a site filled with stories. And to end on a salty note, fill your belly with a hearty Breton pot-au-feu (they call it the kig ha farz in the area).
