Among vineyards and sweat in Cher, in the heart of Centre-Val de Loire, the Sancerre Trail offers 3 distances around the foothills: 8 km (250mD+), 15 km (500mD+) and 35 km (1000mD+) on natural and hilly terrain. The friendly event, launched by the winemakers, blends vineyard landscapes and local heritage for a unique sporting and tourist experience. In 2026, an unprecedented and nighttime race will join the meeting.
A warm and sincere yes for the Trail de Sancerre! In Cher, in the heart of Centre-Val de Loire, this challenge unfolds between “ vines and sweat ” as the organizers so aptly put it. June’s temperatures, almost summery, will be part of the mix. Let’s dive in to discover this trail in nature. 😊
3 distances to run around the vineyards of the Cher! On the agenda for this gathering: “ The Starting ” 8 km of distance with 250mD+, “ The Little Girl ” 15 km and a 500mD+ and “ The Magnum ” a race of 35 km with climbs reaching 1000mD+. For the little ones, a children’s race “ Les P’tits Vitis ” is organized and “ Le Dossard d'Or ” a treasure-hunt/fun run will delight the companions.👌 In 2026, a new race in homage to the 90th anniversary of the Sancerre appellation also takes shape, “ L’Ultra du Piton.” A symbolic and exclusive format: 90 km in self-supported, in nocturnal, with 3 loops through rolling landscapes, for 90 lucky participants (45 pairs) and in the form of an orienteering race. 🧭
It’s mainly the vineyard lands you’ll tread for this trail, but not only. You’ll also traverse the woods around Sancerre. This friendly event was started by the winemakers themselves in 2012, to let as many people as possible discover their vineyards 🍇. The course is renewed every year to avoid routine, but tough luck—the charming scenery and terrain are plentiful in the area. No exact course thus but a few little clues 🍷. You’ll pass around the slopes and you’ll meander between the valleys of the region before discovering a winery. A perfect mix of “ sporting environment and local territory for this trail.
Wine lovers and fresh-air fans will be delighted by this race with locally rooted colors. The town of Sancerre is also a town worth visiting after the run. Expect narrow lanes and historic monuments to admire. A charming region for a sporty yet cultural weekend. 🤩
A mandatory detour to a good table in Cher to savor a piece of crottin de chavignol or a plate of poulet barbouille. 😋
