About this event

In Montreux, in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, the 9th edition of the Montreux Trail Festival takes place at the end of July. Expect monstrous courses of 400 km, solo or in teams, between the Vaud Alps and Lake Geneva, with a festive atmosphere blending sport and music inspired by Queen and Freddie Mercury. Formats like Mxsky, Mxalps and Mxtreme promise challenges and spectacle set against an atmosphere driven by the image of the lake and the mountains.

It’s in Switzerland 🇨🇭, in the canton of Vaud, more precisely at Montreux, where the 9th edition of the Montreux Trail Festival is back with a rendezvous at the end of July 🗓️. So it’s a weather that should be more than pleasant, welcoming you with temperatures ranging between 12 and 23°C ☀️. This event always aims to offer you an extraordinary challenge! 🤩 Vibrant challenges await you: monstrous courses of 400 km alone or in teams in the heart ❤️ of Alpes Vaudoises 🏔️ from Bex and its massif du Muveran to the shores of the largest lake in western Europe 🇪🇺, the Lac Léman 🐟. So, what does this edition have in store for us? 🧐

Between sport 💪 and music 🎵, whether you’re a runner, companion or a simple spectator, let yourself be drawn into the atmosphere of Queen 🦅 and its most mythical member: Freddie Mercury, also drawn to the charm of Montreux and its Riviera 💦. Its statue will welcome you on the shores of Lac Léman during a magical arrival 🪄. What better way to summarize the program than “A kind of magic“, a hallmark title recorded at Studio Mountain 🎙️ in Montreux. The mountains as far as the eye can see, the crystal-clear waters of Lake Geneva for one final arrival plunge 🏊‍♂️, innovative race formats 🎽, a subtle blend of courses accessible to all and others reserved for passionate enthusiasts 😈. And above all, an all-pervasive musical atmosphere to keep the festive vibe high! 🎉 This is the best and most exciting, but also the most challenging races you’ll be offered. Following the example of the "Crossing Switzerland" and the "Crossing Switzerland Ekiden", spanning the country from east to west 🚸. Can you imagine? A road trip of 400 km, purely on foot 👣. Saturday will be a full day of music 🎶, beach 🏖️, food 🍔, and drinks 🥤 by the lake. You’ll get to enjoy live concerts on Saturday, and in the evening, the accompanying group "Queen's Tribute Band" will lead the runners of the "Freddie's Night", the night race 🔦 of 15 km. If you want to run with family, you can enter the "Mxfamily" of 32 km, a format blending kids and adults 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 to share a special moment with your child 🧒. Conversely, if you see yourself as a lone wolf 🐺, the "Mxsky" is for you. This 30 km route has 1 900 mD+ that will break your legs as much as your cardio 😮‍💨. Once your race is done, you can stay, party a little more and cheer the finishers of the "Mxalps", and the "Mxtreme" who find their way back home 🏠 after their hilly challenges of 66 km and 100 km 👏. But there’s no doubt you won’t be a mere spectator, but rather an active participant in this festive weekend, above all a sporting one 😁.

If you’re seeking similar athletic challenges, still in Switzerland, let us suggest a few races. For example, the Diablerets Trail Blanc which takes place in March, Les Courses du Mont-Terrible in April or the Wildstrubel By UTMB in September. If you prefer the tarmac 🛣️, you’ll be drawn to the Semi-Marathon CEP Cortaillod in March, the 20 km de Lausanne in April or the Winterthur Marathon in May. If you’re looking to extend the weekend, Montreux could really have some nice surprises 🎁. A bucolic stroll and a pleasant time, between lake and greenery on its quays 🛶. For fans and even less-fans, a visit to the Queen Studio Experience is a must. You’ll discover among other things the costumes 🕺🏼 and handwritten notes 📝 from the band leader, all while listening to his songs 💽. Spanning about 30 km along the east-facing slope south of the shores of Lake Geneva, the vineyard terraces 🍇 of the Lavaux region, a site listed as the UNESCO World Heritage. On the gastronomic side 🍽️, Swiss cuisine is, like the country, diverse. Yet it is mainly famous for its traditional meals around cheese 🧀 🫕 and raclette 🧀, but also for the creaminess of its chocolate 🍫

Now that you’re aware of all that the region has to offer ☑️, fuel your stomach and come. And as the region idol would say: "The show must go on" 🕺.
