We hope you're ready to smash the course record, because it's held by…Kilian Jornet, the ultra-trail king 👑. In 2021, he conquered the Salomon Ultra Pirineu 100K in just over 10 hours ⏰. Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to do that (if you finish, that’s already incredibly impressive 💪). So for now, sit back, relax, and discover this mythical race in Catalonia, in the northeast of Spain 🇪🇸.

Direction Bagà, a small mountain village that for one October weekend becomes the base camp for trail lovers D+ 😍. Here, it's the Catalan high mountains that decide 🫡. You'll have to cope with razor-edged ridges, technical trails, and landscapes that take your breath away 💨. Welcome to the Salomon Ultra Pirineu, one of Europe's most mythical trails, which gathers enthusiasts from all corners of the world 🌍. The main event is the Salomon Ultra Pirineu 100K, a monster of 100 kilometers and 6600 mD+ 📈 that will take you through the most iconic areas of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. At this distance, there is no room for improvisation: it’s one of the most demanding races in Spain 🥵. We recommend starting your training seriously if you want to push for the record of 10 h 25 signed by living legend Kilian Jornet ⚡️. If you prefer a more “reasonable” format (everything is relative 😬) you can aim for the Marató Pirineu 42K, a mountain marathon with 2700 mD+. This course is a condensed showcase of the most spectacular viewpoints of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, such as Niu de l’Àliga, Penyes Altes or Empedrats 🤩. If 42 km is still long for you but you want to sample the adventure anyway, there is the 21 km 🙌. With its 1 200 mD+, it offers you breathtaking views over the massif of Serra d'Ensija and the Comabona ⛰️. You’ll also have the chance to spot the iconic Pedraforca, easily recognizable by its two pointed peaks skyward 🪨. It’s, by the way, the most famous summit in Catalonia 📸. For adrenaline junkies, there’s the Molina Nit Pirineu KV : 5 km and 860 mD+ for the joy misery of legs eyes 👀. This course (a bit savage, we’ll grant) starts from the ski resort of La Molina to reach the refuge of the Niu de l’Àliga, located at 2 520 meters above sea level ⬆️. At the summit, you’ll be able to observe the valleys of the Cerdagne, Ripollès and the Berguedà 🔍. Children aren’t left out, since the mini-trailers can start at the XS Pirineu 👶. In total, 6 distances are offered based on age, ranging from 1 to 6 km 🤓.

One tip, don’t just do a simple out-and-back for this race! ❌ You’re in the heart of the Parc Naturel de l’Alt Pirineu, the largest in all of Catalonia, with nearly 70,000 hectares of forests, peaks, and trails 🥾. Your playground during the race is also a paradise for a more relaxed hike🚶. After your trail, head for a stroll toward the Pedraforca, the Catalan people’s favorite mountain (and you’ll understand why 🤤). You can also explore the charming town of Gósol, where Pablo Picasso drew inspiration in his early days 🧑‍🎨. To drop your bags, there’s no need to look far: in Bagà, the best option is the Zona Tipi, a tipi campsite ⛺️ set just 200 meters from the race village center 🏘️. You won’t be disappointed by the cuisine either! Once you’re settled in a local restaurant, try a Suquet de peix, des mandonguilles or a fideuada, a fisherman’s seafood dish 🍤.
