La Vizilloise

Did you know that the French Revolution began in the small town of Vizille in Isère ⚔️? Yes indeed Jamy 👓, as early as 1788, when representatives of the nobility, the clergy and the Third Estate gathered in the Château de Vizille 🏰. And for the first time, they issued a call to the nation that it was time to create a new political order. Less than a year later, the revolutionaries headed to the Bastille in Paris... But where is Vizille? Good question. Vizille is a commune located in the department of Isère, in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. And it’s an absolutely brilliant town, both historically and for its landscapes 🏞️. So, today we have a proposition for you: what if we came to explore this incredible town of Vizille, all while doing some sport? 🏃 Come on, we’ll take you to discover the race of... La Vizilloise ! 💪🏼

Set the course, the place, the time of year, the weather... Organized by the US Vizille Athlétisme, La Vizilloise takes place every September and will let you discover the Château de Vizille 🏰 as well as its Park grandiose 🌲 ... You’re about to discover an exceptional historic site that also offers stunning landscapes! Moreover, this year you’ll have plenty of choices since it’s not one, but 2 parcours for 4 épreuves on offer 👌: an 8 km trail 8 km for 100 mD+, a trail of 18 km for 800 mD+ and a 11 km hike with 250 mD+ 🚶🏼. And kids can also stretch their legs because there will be a children’s race 👦🏼. By the way, sunny weather ☀️ is expected (at least we hope) and temperatures could reach up to... 18 degrees ! 😎

And what about the course itself? 🤔 Whether you choose the 8 km or the 18 km, you’ll start your race facing the Château ⛓️. It’s an exceptional historic site where the first French revolutionaries gathered 🇫🇷. But later, the château also hosted several Presidents of the Republic such as Adolphe Thiers or the General de Gaulle. Today, the château is an amazing Museum on the French Revolution 🎨. It’s a unique cultural site that offers a historical and artistic look at this singular event that is the Revolution! If you’re not a big history fan, you can still admire the immense biodiversity surrounding the town… Ponds 🎣, canals, mountains 🏔, pine forests 🌲, rose gardens 🌹, ... in short, it’s in a fantastic natural setting 🍃 that you’ll have the chance to run in! In the early kilometers, you’ll even pass through the Parc du château. You might spot deer 🦌, chamois 🦬, greylag geese 🦆 and peacocks 🦚. For the bravest (those taking part in the 18 kmrace), you’ll run to the town of Vaulnaveys-le-Bas... This route offers absolutely incredible views of the Alpine summits in the region. 🏔

The Domaine de Vizille is a protected area with regulations, so organizers implement numerous measures to protect nature. 🌿

What do we do after the race? First, you can head to the Museum of the French Revolution. Created in 1983in anticipation of the bicentennial of the French Revolution in 1989, this place retraces the history of the revolution and offers a critical and artistic view on this event. This museum invites us to discover or rediscover this historic episode and to challenge preconceived ideas about the Revolution 😄. You can also stroll in the Parc du château to recover well after the race and to enjoy the sun 🥵. Finally, you can then eat at one of the many restaurants surrounding the park 🍽️. We recommend trying a cheese plate 🧀 (local cheeses are plentiful and delicious), accompanied by a small glass of red wine from the region! 🍷
