Grand Raid du Guillestrois-Queyras

It’s in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, in the Hautes-Alpes department, more precisely in Guillestre where your next mountain trail mountain 🏔️ will take place. Located at the gate of the Queyras, this commune hosts its 2nd edition of the Grand Raid du Guillestrois-Queyras. This event nature 🍃 aims to be environmentally friendly, the association of the same name that runs the Ultra highest in France 🇫🇷 has prepared 4 exceptional routes that will let you discover stunning landscapes :La Skyrace du Rif Bel (25km), Le Trail des Lacs (50km ; 3200mD+), Le Trail des Crêtes (67km ; 4250mD+), La Grande Traversée (105km ; 6600mD+) and L’Ultra Tour (170km ; 11000mD+) which is also doable as a relay 🫱🏻‍🫲🏾. The weather ⛅️ should be mild at the start of July but no need to remind you that "the higher you go, the colder it gets". So don't forget your puffer, your hat and your gloves 🧤 if you don’t want to turn into a block of ice. 🧊

Beyond the sports challenge, the Grand Raid du Guillestrois-Queyras also aims to be an eco-friendly event ♻️ that fits into the clock ⏱️. The routes of the different courses have been designed with the organization of protected areas of the Natura 2000 network, to minimize impact on the ecosystems traversed. You’ll discover a territory counting no less than 10 municipalities, 13 cols and 7 lakes (but not the Connemara one following the route you choose. By the way you’ll be able to spot some of them on the first 50km trail. Lake Mirroir, Lake Saint-Anne or the Blue Lake are the water bodies you’ll discover on the Trail des Lacs 💦

If you’re used to trails and love the snow ❄️? Still in the region, we can offer the Trail Blanc Vauban by Night and the Snow Race of Montgenèvre. Both races take place in January, perfect for your first challenge of the year 💪🏼? If you prefer the summer heat ☀️, the Grand Trail of the Izoard in August and the Trail of Meije in the fall, can surely interest you 🧐. On the culinary front 🍽️, Hautes-Alpes offers a few specialties to showcase. For starters, let yourself be tempted by the tourtons and ravioles du Champsaur. For a main course, the famous oreilles d’âne 🐴. We’ll let you discover what’s behind this name 🤭. Similar to the kiss of the devil, which you can taste at the cheese 🧀. To end on a sweet note, why not go back to Tourtons du Champsaur? This time stuffed with apples 🍎 or prunes. To wrap it all up, how about a sip of Génépi? The iconic Alpine plant grows mainly between 2 500 and 3 200 meters altitude. 😮
