Le trail des Monts et Merveilles

Start the year with a healthy dose of fresh air during a trail run in the natural setting, a perfect plan to shed the post-holiday indulgences! 20 km north of Limoges in Haute-Vienne (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), the commune of Compreignac and its forty-odd hamlets welcome you to host the first trail of the year in Haute-Vienne, namely the Trail of the Mountains and Wonders. ⛰

This race in the middle of nature and at the heart of the Limousin forest will start you from Saint-Martin Church of Compreignac, a village bearing witness to the passage of the Romans and our ancestors the Gauls with the monetary treasures of Antiquity! For this trail, two distances are offered: the 10 km as well as the 24 km.

January weather is no joke, so watch out for unpredictable weather conditions and potential obstacles like mud and slippery trails if you don’t want to end up with muddy sneakers! This trail runs almost exclusively in open nature. Most of the course (+90%) takes place along forest paths for both distances. 🌳

Several climbs will stand in your path, such as Col de la Sablonnade and also Beausoleil signalwhich offer a unique panorama over the surroundings of Compreignac and its Limousin mountains.

If you want to see more of this wonderful little corner, you can head to the Saint-Pardoux Lake, the second largest water body in Haute-Vienne by area (330 hectares) and which draws many visitors each year. Well, we suggest you come back to stay in the summer to fully enjoy the lake and its numerous water activities : canoeing, stand-up paddle, sailing, water skiing… 🚣

On the gastronomy side, try the Limousin pie (puff pastry stuffed with meat and potatoes) followed by a slice of the famous clafoutis which is undoubtedly Haute-Vienne’s specialty. 🍒
