Les 10 km de Morcourt

Created in 1991, the 10 km Morcourt road race is organized in the Aisne, in the heart of the Hauts-de-France region. Just steps from Saint-Quentin, the largest commune in the department and incidentally classified as a town of art and history, you can take part in this Picardy event renowned for its challenge.

Several distances and race types are on offer: 5 km, 10 km, walking, kids’ races... everyone should find their joy! Note that it is a relatively flat and fast course that favors performance and will allow you to, who knows, to smash your personal 10 km record: more than a hundred participants go under 40’ each year, so why not you? ⏱

The start and finish will take place at the foot of Saint-Médard Church, in the center of Morcourt village. After a fast start in front of numerous spectators who make this event very convivial, you’ll have to cross (tuck in your shirt! We’re talking about a bridge 🌉 !) then follow the historic Saint-Quentin Canal. Inaugurated in 1810 by Napoleon, this canal (92.5 km long) used to carry cereals and coal to the capital and today connects Belgium (once! 🇧🇪), northern France, and Paris.

Your adventure will then take you to discover Omissy, a charming little town with its blooming lock and which was occupied by the Germans during World War I. But enough historical details: there is a race to finish! And how... After again crossing the Saint-Quentin Canal to reach Morcourt’s streets, the final stretch (150 m) will be your moment to let lightning strike ⚡ (hmm, doesn’t that remind you of someone ?) in a blazing sprint in front of cheering spectators!

Alongside the races, music and various entertainments will entertain the fervent supporters and companions. If you’d like to discover more about the local heritage, we invite you to visit the the Riqueval subterranean passage: it’s one of the few places on the planet where you might see towing (the canal barges’ towing system), and there’s even a museum in the town of Bellicourt for the curious!
