Trail Natura Sioule

Like an explorer, come discover the private trails that border the Sioule, this beautiful river in the Massif Central that runs for 164 km.

The Natura Sioule trail welcomes you in the Allier in April, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, about fifty kilometers north of Clermont-Ferrand. In total, four distances will be offered: « Les Landes de Péraclos » in a short format of 13 km or 19 km. For the more prepared runners, the longer races are: « Les Murailles de Chouvigny » over 30 km and « Les Trois Têtes » 51.5 km are cross-scheduled across two departments: Allier and Puy-de-Dôme. With rather cool temperatures and possibly rain, it wouldn’t be wise to shed layers in April. On the other hand, feel free to come with family because the "Natura Kids"" are special races organized for children.

The race starts in Ebreuil on Les Landes de Péraclos which also houses a megalith dating back several thousand years. You will then walk along the Bois de Châtelard to reach the Gorges of Chouvigny with its high cliffs and its lush nature. The crossing of the Sioule river might introduce you to the European otter and beaver. If you hear a buzzing, don't panic—it's only a Cordulegaster dragonfly come to cheer you on. You can then admire the Château de Chouvigny this magnificent fortress from the 13th century, perched on its rocky spur overlooking the Gorges. Then you reach Chouvigny, but the longest distances will continue along the Sioule. Note that the races include some paths from the GR Val de Sioule.

To refuel after your trail in the heart of nature, you can savor the traditional and revitalizing potato pie but before kissing your lovely or your partner, take a detour to Vichy for a refreshing breath mint. They’ll thank you.

After that, since you’re not that far away, you can explore Clermont-Ferrand and its unique religious buildings, then continue your visit to the Puy de Dôme puys to get another burst of vegetation and wild nature!
