The Liechtenstein LGT Alpin Marathon offers several distances: marathon, relay 25+17 and 10 km linking Bendern to Vaduz, with the option semi+25. The course passes through Schaan and Vaduz and leads up to Malbun, along the Alpine massif for authentic elevation gain. After the race, discover Vaduz and its surroundings while supporting the fight against breast cancer.
In the world there are vast countries, like the USA 🇺🇸 , the Brazil 🇧🇷 or Russia 🇷🇺 (it's even the country with the largest area 🤓). On the other hand, there are countries so tiny that we nearly forget they exist! This, however, does not mean there are no exciting races there! 😉 To prove it, we’re going to introduce you to the LGT Alpin Marathon, which takes place in the principality of Liechtenstein! 🇱🇮
The Liechtensteinit's a tiny country of barely 160 km² tucked between the Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Austria 🇦🇹 . For comparison, the Territoire de Belfort (the smallest French department) has an area of 609 km² 😅. It truly is a microstate, counting only 11 communes, compared to more than 36,000 in France! Geography checks must be much easier! 😆 It’s in the commune of Gamprin and more precisely in the locality of Bendern, that the race begins 🏃♀️.
Several distances are offered so that everyone can discover the principality's beauties 👑. Thus, the Marathon will take you to the village of Malbun via the towns of Schaan and Vaduz (the capital 📍) while running along the Swiss border. If you don’t feel up to running the full marathon, you can do it in relay by signing up for the 25+17. If you don’t want to share, sign up for the semi + (25 km). Finally, there is a 10 km race connecting 10 km from Bendern to Vaduz which aims to support breast cancer research 🎗️. Discovering new lands while taking part in fighting a disease that sadly still affects too many people is truly top! 👏 No matter the distance, elevation will be on the agenda: the country is entirely covered by the Alpine massif ! ⛰️😍
After the race, you’ll have the leisure to visit Vaduz and its surroundings. You’ll probably pass by the Vaduz Castle 🏰 where Prince Hans Adam II receives guests. The Red House is another highlight of the capital, with its façade covered in red-painted gables 🥰. And when you leave, don’t forget to admire the Alte RheinBrücke, which spans the Rhine and connects the capital to Switzerland.
