Set off for Azay-le-Rideau in the Loire Valley for a marathon route starting in the castle’s courtyard and winding along the Indre to vineyards and orchards crossed by five communes. Take on the 42.195 km marathon challenge, or opt for the 10.7 km Apple-Pear and the Vieux Chêne Half Marathon in a warm, friendly atmosphere. The finish brings you back near the castle and offers views of the landscaped park and the banks of the Loire, with local rewards at the finish.
Dreaming of a fairytale life 🏰 ? Then head towards Azay-le-Rideau in Indre-et-Loire! The marathon that takes place there offers a stunning setting: the famous Loire château built on an island 🏝 dating from the 16th century and listed as a historic monument since 1914. In the heart of April, when temperatures are perfect for a run 🌤, it’s in this very elegant environment that you’ll attempt your best performance.
The main event of the day is, of course, the Azay-le-Rideau Marathon Val-de-Loire. But if you’re not feeling up to tackling the full 42.195 km, there are two other races on the program: bring all your pom'friends to run the Pomme-Poire of 10.7 km dressed up or the apple-banana on the Old Oak Half Marathon. You’ll find the atmosphere warm and welcoming!
In a loop format, your adventure begins in the château’s inner courtyard itself. A vantage to enjoy this architectural marvel and a grand view of its landscape park. After leaving this charming town in the Centre-Val de Loire, you’ll discover vineyards, apple orchards 🍏, fruit trees and country lanes across five more communes. First, you’ll run on the Indre bridge to reach Cheillé . You’ll then follow the Indre 💧 to reach Rivarennes and Rigny-Ussé. Here, another château awaits you, and not just any château: the Sleeping Beauty’s Castle 👸 ! No time to kiss it awake, there’s a race to finish! The lady only had to be careful during her sewing workshop 💁♀️ ! You’ll admire the Loire banks up to the village of Lignières-de-Touraine before rejoining Azay-le-Rideau to cross the finish line victoriously.
Toward the end of the race, to hydrate or not, you’ll have the chance to receive a bottle of Azay-le-Rideau apple juice or the local Ridellois wine offered by the organizers. For the afternoon, don’t hesitate to visit the castles you spotted from afar, as well as the Dufresne Museum. To celebrate the end of your weekend, recharge with a glass of Chinon accompanied by the truffle of Richelieu, or treat yourself to the delicious pomme tapée de Rivarennes... 🍐
