In April, Antalya hosts the Antalya Marathon (Runtalya), Turkey's largest road running event, with multiple distances: 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, and 42 km. Flat sea-front course, sea views as far as the eye can see, and historic monuments, with prizes near Lara Beach and the Duden waterfalls. All under a forecast sun of around 26° at the Mercure.
Ahhhh, April, the start of spring 🪷, it smells like vacation, doesn’t it? 🧳 And since you’re part of the Finishers team“vacations”often rhymes with “new athletic challenge” ➡️. So buckle up and lace up 👟, we’re taking you to Turkey, more precisely to Antalya! The 5th largest city in the country gathers thousands of participants from around the world 🌍 at the start of the Antalya Marathon! Also known as Runtalya), this road race is thelargest in Turkey(yes, really, that’s a thing!) 🤯. In southern Turkey, you’ll need to watch out for overheating! 🥵 Even though you’ll be running by the sea, the sun will still be hot: 26° forecast at the Merķure (as our dear Évelyne Dhéliat 🤓).
But don’t panic, if you don’t want to push yourself too hard 🏋️, the Runtalya offers several distances! 5 km, 10 km, half marathon or the race’s crown jewel of 42 km 👑, you’ll be spoiled for choice! 😁 Neither the heat nor your level will be valid excuses not to join this masterfully crafted event ☝️. Because the course itself is worth it! 🕯️ No elevation gain, the sea to the horizon 🌊, historic sites 🕌 around every corner and finally the Duden Falls and the Lara Beach 🏖️ as the climax for runners that day 😉. Archaeological Museum, Hadrian’s Gate, square Cumhuriyet, the "Turkish Riviera" will have no secrets for you! 😏
Since you’ll probably have gone a little too fast during your race 🚀 (we know you’re a competitor chasing PBs ⏱️), this will be the perfect moment to swap your running sneakers for city shoes 👞 and go strolling through the narrow streets of the historic center! After the race, you can explore the old town of Kaleiçi with its cobblestone streets and Ottoman houses 🏘️, or visit the Archaeological Museum 🏛️ to discover ancient treasures 🪙. If you’re more in the mood for a nature excursion 🏞️, you can head (or return, if you conquered the 42 km 😎) to the Duden Waterfall! 💦 And if you’re thirsting for adventure, you can always go a bit further and discover the Aspendos ancient theater, famed for its exceptional acoustics 🎶.
