About this event
Florence offers the Florence Marathon rolling route over 42 km, ideal for beginners or to beat your best time, the course runs along the Arno and crosses iconic bridges like Ponte Vecchio before arriving near the Cathedral Duomo. The start and finish are not far from this symbol of the city, and alternatives such as the relay half marathon in 3, the 10 km or the 3 km complete the offer.
Florence, it's one of the most mythical cities in Italy 🇮🇹. We know Rome, the capital, Venice as the city of love ❤️ and Milan for fashion and Football ⚽ . Firenze (that's how we say it in the original VO 🗣️), it's the city of Renaissance, a period that saw many artists who left a mark in the history of painting or sculpture 🎨. Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo 👼 and even Leonardo da Vinci all originated from Florence, or its region. The city also gives sport a key place: Fiorentina is a stronghold of Italian football, the city's districts face off every year in a tournament of calcio florentino, (a game typical of the city 🌆) and at the centerpiece, the Marathon of Florence, attracts many runners from all over Italy 🇮🇹 and from Europe 🇪🇺, year after year, to tackle legendary distances.
The Firenze Marathon has been organized since 1984 and invites runners to discover the city of the lily ⚜️ along the full 42 km that make up the course. The route is known to be very rolling 🛼 and is therefore ideal for beginners or for those who aim to beat their record ⏱. The marathon route focuses on the part of the city north of the Arno, the river that runs through the Tuscany capital. You'll run many kilometers along this river course 🌊, which forms the heart of the race, and you'll cross several iconic bridges to go from one bank to the other. You'll first cross the Pont Alla Vittoria, which commemorates the Battle of Vittorio Veneto, decisive during the First World War. A few kilometers further, you'll pass by the oldest and most famous bridge of the city: the Ponte Vecchio 😍. This bridge built in the Middle Ages houses several shops, notably jewelry shops and jewelry stores 💎. The next bridge is the Pont Alla Grazie
You can also visit the cathedral after the race (only after changing clothes - proper attire is required for men and women 👗). It will also be a chance to visit a few museums, notably the Uffizi Gallery or the Galleria dell'Accademia 🖼, where the famous David by Michelangelo. The sculpture is surrounded by an aura such that many visitors have been overcome with hysteria upon seeing the work. Watch out! 😜 For a fun fact, acting out in front of works of art is medically known as the Stendhal syndrome. Pretty logical when you consider the city’s prominent place for art in the city! 👆 If the sculpture isn’t your cup of tea 🫖 and you prefer nature’s beauty 🍃, head to the Boboli Gardens, a true breath of fresh air in the middle of the city. The Bardini Garden will offer you an incredible panorama over the city, plus its beautiful flowers 🌻 making it a must-visit spot. Finally, we recommend the gigantic San Lorenzo Market
Speaking of food, did you know that the Tuscany is renowned for the diversity of its gastronomy? 🙃 The region is vast, so dishes are grouped into three families: from the Maremma, those from the coasts and those from the lands. You’ll still find many regional similarities: the olive oil OLIVE OIL 🫒 (Tuscany is known for its quality) and the aromatic herbs 🌿 are always present in the Tuscan dishes, and so in the Florentine specialties A typical meal is often accompanied by fettunta (a salted bread with garlic 🧄😋) and starts with an appetizer made of Crostino, the Italian pâté. For the main dish, we recommend the Ribollita, a popular dish consisting of a vegetable stew that will satisfy you after a grueling run. If you prefer meat, note that the region is also known for the quality of its beef 🥩. You can finish your meal with almond cookies and a bit of wine 🍷 (enjoy in moderation). Buon appetito ! 🤤
