Marathon de Riyad

Last call for Finishers Airlines passengers bound for Riyadh. Please take your seat for an unprecedented experience in a country just as original: Saudi Arabia. ✈️

You chose the right destination first of all because the country is rich in history, and then because this isn’t something you get to do every day: running a marathon in the Arabian Peninsula. But you won’t only have the legendary 42 km at your disposal since you can choose from a 4 km, a 10 km, or a half marathon. So yes, with a race in a country mostly made up of deserts, you’re probably wondering if the temperatures won’t be extreme. Imagine this: the race takes place in March and the weather is simply perfect for running: very little chance of rain (of course in a desert 😏) and the thermometer shows an average of 25°C. Not sure the Saudis experience March showers as dreaded in France. 😅

For the second edition of this event, the race takes place exclusively in the city, through the streets of the capital. The start is in the majestic King Saud University. The route will then guide you through Riyadh past the city’s most beautiful landmarks such as the Rajhi Tower and the Digital City. The marathon will also let you enjoy twice as much of the city since you’ll have to do 2 laps of 21 km. In addition to a splendid course, the event is open to all levels. Indeed, no matter your preparation and abilities, you’ll surely find a distance to suit you 👟. So you’ll have long outings to try to beat your time and challenge yourself, but also shorter ones to enjoy privileged access to Riyadh’s streets and its scenery. You choose your pace while soaking up the festive atmosphere 🎉. Indeed, the ambiance will be very celebratory with activities planned throughout the race, including, among others, the setup of the Riyadh Marathon Village that will last the whole weekend.

After your effort, how about discovering local culture and gastronomy? You’ll find a wide range of dishes and specialties. All that’s left is to pick the one that tempts you most: the Kabsa made with rice, meat and spices, but you can also try the Basboussa made from fine wheat semolina, sugar and dried fruits. On the sightseeing side, head to the Al Masmak Fort, an important site in Saudi history. And right beside it, you’ll find the Riyadh Souks district, not to be missed for its authentic vibe.
