Trail du Mourtis

If you don’t want to end up out of breath, like Boutx at the end,Jean-Luc Godard's film, train hard because the Mourtis trail is no walk in the park.

The Mourtis ski station is a winter sports resort ❄️, but in May it hosts a sensational trail. Perched in the Pyrenees, in the Haute-Garonne department, in the Occitanie region, the village of Boutx has been hosting the event since 2013 (the release year of the last album by Daft Punk). You have two distances at your disposal: the “Trail des Eterlous” from 16 km. And the legendary “Marathon du Mourtis” from 42 km which you can run in a relay or solo. Weather will decide the experience you will live ⛅: either beautiful weather with a clear view from the summits, or snow and fog that make the experience quite unusual. Check the forecasts before you come to choose your outfit; trekking poles (not ski poles 😆) can also be very useful given the difficulty of the ascents.

Yes, because you’ll face very rugged, steep mountains. But it’s worth climbing to the top of the Pic du Gar, the Escalette cabin or even the Gaube pass, as the views are extraordinary ⛰️. The special thing is that you get 360° views, very wide, which let you fully admire the Pyrenees range. You’ll even feel like you’re the king of the world overlooking the valley from above, but watch where you step, majesty 👑. You’ll also pass through forests, woods, meadows, and villages where you’ll be energized by the crowd and local music. If you’re lucky, you might spot some isards (Pyrenean chamois); good luck keeping up 😅 .
