In the heart of February, February, the Marathon du Sénégal offers an extraordinary adventure along the stunning Petite Côte 🇸🇳. Located in the Thiès region, this major event is the must-attend for all running enthusiasts and wide-open spaces 🌱. This race unfolds a true journey where sport intertwines with a culture of infinite richness 😍. It's the moment to experience the famous Teranga, this legendary Senegalese hospitality you won't forget 🫂. Locals rally from village to village to cheer you on, sing, and rhythm your strides to the beat of local instruments 🪘. The vibe is going to be totally wild, and whether you’re chasing a fast time or just cheering, you’ll be treated to eye- and ear-full 👂. Technical management is entrusted to the experts of the Fédération Sénégalaise d'Athlétisme, so rest assured the organization runs like clockwork for a serene run 🧘.

The festivities menu is seriously comprehensive with 5 races on the program 😜. Purists will line up for the iconic marathon, while tempo-pace enthusiasts can go for the semi-marathon 📍. If you prefer going hard over a shorter distance, the 10 km and the 5 km are there to heat up the legs 💥. Even future champions get their moment of glory with the 2 km Kids, not to mention the fiery Company Challenge to race as a team👯‍♀️. The course is a spectacular out-and-back that traces a perfect line along the coastline. It’s a fairly rolling profile, but don’t underestimate the African heat that can turn the finish into a real test 🥵. Little anecdote: since the first edition, the winners have been crowned king and queen following the serer rites 👑. Among the men, the previous edition's king is Ousseynou Ndiaye, who clocked an incredible time of 02:41:41 that left everyone in awe. On the women’s side, Pascaline Manga wrapped it up in 03:37:02 💁‍♀️. Performances from afar remind you that you’ll need to be tough to shake up the hierarchy! The great strength of this course is also its cultural diversity: it crosses two towns and four villages (for the marathon) overflowing with history ✍️. The start is in Saly, the seaside resort on the coast 👙. Extending the effort, you’ll traverse Warang, a peaceful haven famed for its craftsmanship and hypnotic calm 😵‍💫. Next comes Nianing, a village steeped in history with its famous baobab forests 🪾. Finally, the turnaround will occur at the majestic Pointe Sarène, a wild and grand eco-tourism site, a true raw jewel of the coast 🤩.

After crossing the finish line and receiving your well-deserved medal, no one heads straight for a nap ❌. Senegal - has so much to offer to recover from a race like this! We start by recharging with the local cuisine 😋. It’s the perfect moment to gather around an authentic ️Thiéboudienne (the national fish and rice dish) or a bold poulet yassa for post-race carb loading 🌶️. To loosen tired legs, nothing beats a relaxed stroll on the fine sandy beaches of Saly or a complete break among the dunes of Pointe Sarène 🏖️.
