In the Southwest, join Jarnac, Charente (New Aquitaine), to along the Charente and discover the Cognac vineyards during the Cognac Marathon. Four road distances are on the program: 5 km, 10.5 km, half marathon and relay marathon, with a flagship 42 km course and refreshments including a Cognac tasting. Festive atmosphere with fanfares, bandas and activities that make the town and its local gastronomy vibrate.
If you’re not cardiac or crazy, head to the Southwest of France and go on the attack of the Marathon du Cognac 🏃.
Come quickly to Jarnac, in Charente, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The hometown of François Mitterand offers you an unconventional route along the Cognac vineyards, in a festive atmosphere under the shimmering colors of the autumn season 🍄. It’ll still be cold in November, with a chance of rain. So plan accordingly, but don’t worry, there will be plenty to warm you up in more than one way! 🥂
Just like cognac has lots of aromas, there are four road distances to suit every taste for the marathon: the 5 km, the 10.5 km, the half marathon and the marathon which is available in a relay. The 42 km is the flagship event and the course is worth the trip. You’ll run along the Charente on very charming paths while discovering historic sites like the châteaux de Triac and of Marnier Lapostolle 🏰. You’ll pass through the villages of Gondeville, Graves Saint Amant or Juac. Wander the Charente vineyards with a stop in a winery, a place of winemaking and cognac storage, you’ll be amazed! 🖐️ And that’s not all! At the aid stations, you’ll enjoy gourmet bites as well as a cognac tasting (to be enjoyed responsibly, of course), even better than the magic potion! Be careful not to fall into it !
For an even more festive vibe, don’t hesitate to come in costume 🧚 , especially since marching bands and bandas will cheer you on during the race 🪕. After your feats, if you feel a bit rough, you can enjoy the market with its regional products and artisanal workshops to recharge. Music groups and singers 🎼 will have you dancing until the end of the night.
And it’s perfect because there’s even more to discover in this region: Angoulême and Cognac are worth a detour with their historical heritage 🏛️. On the cuisine side, besides the cognac you’ll want to bring home as a souvenir, you can also taste the delicious Charentais melon, very refreshing, and those cornuelles, tiny dry cookies with a uniquely shaped form 🤤.
Descend from your hammock, grab your bag and head to Jarnac, and take it easy if you crack the cognac—you’ll end up in pieces!
