The Biwa Lake Men's Marathon (Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon) is a sporting event to mark on your calendar of races in Japan. Considered the oldest marathon in Japan, it attracts each year the world’s best male athletes. The loop course starts and finishes at Ojiyama Stadium and runs along the shores of Lake Biwa, near Otsu landmarks such as Biwako Hall, the Ohmi Bridge, and the Gichu and Ishiyama-dera temples. The Biwa Lake Men’s Marathon (its official name is the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon) is a must-add event on your Japan race calendar 🗓 !
Considered the oldest marathon in Japan, it welcomes each year the world’s best male athletes (sorry ladies, you’re unfortunately excluded from this competition, but don’t worry, two marathons are also dedicated to you in the Land of the Rising Sun: the Nagoya Women’s Marathon and the Yokohama Women’s Marathon 😀).
The loop course, with a start and finish at the Ojiyama Stadium, will take you along the shores of the Biwa Lake (the largest freshwater lake in Japan), and past city landmarks of Otsu such as the art hub Biwako Hallcenter, the Ohmi Bridge and the Gichu Temples and Ishiyama 😍.
