Set off to run in the tropical heat of Kourou for the Marathon de l’Espace, a legendary event created in 1991 to celebrate the 42nd launch of the Ariane rocket. Choose between the classic marathon and the 5-person team event, then cross the Space Road to the aerospace structures, along the Roches beach and the Bois Chaudat lake. A coastal landscape race with a local atmosphere and supporters everywhere.
You're about to step onto the beaches of Guyana in March? Then kick off your journey on the Space Marathon! This race takes place in Kourou under intense heat, so if you're not used to tropical climates you’ll want to prep: sunburn and humidity are on the agenda. But that’s just a detail when you face the paradisiacal landscapes of the Atlantic coast 🌊. So come run toward infinity and beyond on the Space Marathon!
Created in 1991 to celebrate the 42nd launch of the Ariane rocket, this renowned race lets you run through the roads of Kourou up to the aeronautical structures. To make the most of this moment, choose your event wisely! You have the choice between the classic marathon and the same marathon as a team of 5 people! This team event also lets you finish the 2 km of the race all together 🏃♂️🏃♀️.
It starts at La plage des Roches where you’ll launch this vacation-flavored adventure. Not far from La Pointe des Roches the starting gun goes off, offering a breathtaking panorama of the ocean. The rest is a city-center crossing before heading toward the Bois Chaudat lake. You’ll then dive into Guyana’s nature 🌴 after skirting the Anse golf course and the famous space center. The name of the road you’ll be running along all along your course is Space Road of course 🚀! So fire up the engines to smash your distance record. After that, head home to wrap things up and enjoy the numerous local cheers from residents gathered for this notable regional event!
If you’re just passing through, you absolutely must wander around Kourou. The scenery is magical, starting with the beach and the tropical forest 🤩. But there’s more to Guyana than the beach! The local town’s mountains deserve exploration or a climb if you’re brave enough to take in unique, breathtaking viewpoints. The indescribable fauna and flora should leave you in awe. And speaking of wonders, order a hearty bowl of Colombo, a local specialty, to finish your stay on Guyanese soil!
