The Vulcain Trail in Volvic takes you to the heart of the Auvergne volcanoes with varied routes, from 11 km to 77 km, and elevations up to 2870 m D+. Expect panoramic landscapes, steep ascents and rolling sections, all starting from the Volvic sports complex. Hundreds of brave participants test their endurance there in a volcanic and festive atmosphere, between nature and heritage.
« A volcano goes quiet, a being awakens »! If you’re not likely to run into molten lava on the Trail of Vulcain, you might end up in eruption. Volvic, the town in the Puy-de-Dôme region (not the bottle) hosts this race with the first spring temperatures of March but be careful, because up high you might catch a chill before really heating up! The Trail of Vulcain : you risk being on fire! 🔥
Suspended high in the mountains, Volvic isn’t just the purity of its water 🥤, it’s also a town rich in surprising cultural heritage and nearby natural spaces like the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne. It’s at the heart of these stunning landscapes that you’ll have the chance to run. On the program is “ La Volvic Nature ” a course of 11 km with 480m D+, « the Riom Limagne and Volcane » 22 km with a 860mD+, « Le Marathon Volcanique » 48 km et 1840mD+ et « l’Ultra Volcanique » 77 km pour un dénivelé positif qui atteint 2870m D+. For the joy of the little ones (and peace of mind for the grown-ups), a kids’ race is planned: Trailou. 🌋
Heads up, it’s going to heat up! It’s a trek through volcanic lands you’re about to tackle! The course is varied, switching between beautiful challenges, steep climbs and rolling and singletrack. After you start at the city’s Volvic sports complex (grab a quick drink before you head out, it would be a shame to start dehydrated in Volvic 😂), you’ll cross the town before beginning a climb over 10% on asphalt. Once you’re out of town, it’s all paths under your feet, the first taking you to the Volcan du Puy de la Nugère before joining the Puy de la Coquille and the Puy de Jume. It’ll climb but the panoramas from climbing these volcanoes are unmatched 🤩. After a series of steep ascents and sometimes vertigo-inducing descents, it’s likely your calves will be blazing 🧯. The finish is tough with very steep climbs. The final push before the descent to Volvic’s sports complex is coming.
After finishing and a well-deserved little drink of water, refresh yourself with the pompe aux pommes or even the pâtes de fruits d’Auvergne !
