What is the real South? Well, it’s the French Riviera of course! The Alpes-Maritimes, the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur... But yes, you know it! It’s the place in France where it’s always sunny and warm and where you’ll find plenty of olive oil in every dish 🫒. Really, doesn’t that ring a bell? Alright, we’ll forgive you, and we’ll explain why the Mounta Cala de Villefranche-sur-Mer is one of the best races of this end of year 👇.

“Climb and descend.” As the race title says, you’ll have to conquer slopes before having to go back down, and that, several times. At least we’re warned! 😂 This year, organizers have added a family-friendly participation option! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Three routes are offered: a 10 km road race on, a free walk (pace yourself!) of 6 km and a route for kids! 🧒 The 10 km race takes place entirely in the picturesque town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. You’ll run along the coast, on the promenade of the Marinière Beach, but also along a seawall, dipping into the exploration of the trenches of the Citadelrue du Poilu.

The most notable aspect of the event is its inclusivity 🤝. The race is open to athletes handisports, the seniors and youth starting from 16 years old, fostering a huge cosmopolitan mix. That’s the spirit of Noël! 🎅 Oh yes, you might not have known this detail! The race takes place on the 18th December,the Christmas holidays will be at the center of the festivities 🎊. So bring your red and white hat… as well as your swimsuit 👙. No, you read that right! A Christmas bath is organized after the race! Of course nothing mandatory, and if you’re chilly, you’ll even have something to warm you up by sipping a good hot wine 🍷 while listening to the brass band 🎺. However, you might regret it, because the occasion is just too beautiful. With water around 15° at this time of year, the Mediterranean Sea is easily approachable 😎. Especially since you might get warm after the 10 km of Mounta Cala! 😏 In addition, the setting is worth a look 👀. Imagine yourself, seated before turquoise blue waters 🐬, in the loveliest bay of the Côte d'Azur, with a sandwich in one hand 🤤, a glass in the other, and all of it under a big sun... 🌞
