The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) has specific rules for kids and youth competitions that ensure safety, fair play, and development in the sport.

Here’s a comprehensive overview of the ruleset:

Age Categories • Kids: Ages 4 to 12 • Youth: Ages 13 to 17

Each age group has its own weight divisions, and participants must weigh in before the competition.

Match Duration

• Kids (4-6 years): 2 minutes

• Kids (7-9 years): 3 minutes

• Kids (10-12 years): 4 minutes

• Youth (13-17 years): 5 minutes

Points are awarded for achieving dominant positions and successful techniques: •Takedowns: 2 points

•Knee on Belly: 2 points

•Mount: 4 points

•Back Control (with hooks): 4 points

•Guard Pass: 3 points

•Advantages: Awarded for near-scoring situations.

•Penalties: May result in point deductions or advantages for the opponent.

Legal Techniques: The permitted submissions are limited to straight arm locks (straight arm bar) and basic chokes ( rear-naked choke, collar choke, triangle chokes)

• Prohibited Techniques: any Leg locks, bicep slicers, calf slicers, omoplatas, wrist lock, Slams, Spine locks , Guillotines , Any techniques that endanger the safety of the competitor.

Uniforms :

•All competitors must wear a clean, properly fitting Gi and No-Gi set .

Referee Decisions: Referees have the final say in all disputes and their decisions regarding points, penalties, and match outcomes are final.

Conduct and Sportsmanship: Competitors are expected to show respect towards each other, coaches, and officials. Unsportsmanlike conduct may lead to disqualification.

Safety Measures: Matches are monitored to ensure the safety of all competitors. In case of injury or if a competitor is unable to continue, the match may be stopped.
