About this event
The NN Night Run Ostrava offers two nocturnal distances, 10 km Night Run and 5 km Avon Charity Run, with start and finish around Komenského sady, one of the most beautiful parks in the Czech Republic along the Ostravice. The course lights up with thousands of headlamps reflecting on the water and forming a luminous ribbon in the park. After the effort, discover Dolní Vítkovice, the Bolt Tower and the Town Hall, then treat yourself to local specialties and regional beers before getting back on the road.
You have a choice between the classic distance of 10 km (Night Run) and a quick and charitable five (5 km as part of the Avon Běh). The start and finish are usually around Komenského sady – one of the largest and most beautiful urban parks in the Czech Republic, stretching along the banks of the Ostravice River Ostravice, right at the foot of the monumental complex of the New Town Hall. Thousands of headlamps reflected on the water’s mirror and twinkling between the park trees create a spectacular ribbon of light.
Once your headlamp is off and your phosphorescent medal is in hand, Ostrava – a city with a once austere industrial past that today buzzes with contemporary culture and green spaces – invites you to a fantastic reset for the weekend:
Industrial cosmos at Dolní Vítkovice (DOV): This is a must-see. A former steelworks, a coking plant, and a mine transformed into a gigantic cultural and science center with a steampunk vibe. Climb to the Bolt Tower (a cafe and terrace suspended atop a blast furnace, named after the legendary sprinter Usain Bolt) – the view over the city and the Beskides is breathtaking 🏗️.
Observation Tower of the New Town Hall (Nová radnica):New Town Hall Observatory (Nová radnica) : If you want to see the nocturnal course of your race from above, climb the tallest town hall tower in the Czech Republic (85 meters). The green expanses of the parks, intertwined with the remnants of old mines, create a unique panorama 🏛️.
Feast of Silesia and Moravia to recharge: After a solid effort, it’s time for a proper recharge. Stop at a traditional restaurant to taste the Slezský vrabec (“Silesian sparrow” – roasted pork pieces served with two types of cabbage and soft knedlíky). With that, a refreshing half of Radegast beer, a brew as robust as the region, or the local Ostravar, will be perfect 🍲.
