L'Outlast est un défi d'endurance sur sentier de 6 heures au cours duquel les participants doivent parcourir 5 km toutes les heures. Les coureurs doivent terminer chaque tour dans l'heure imparti pour pouvoir continuer ; manquer un tour entraîne la disqualification. L'événement met l'accent sur la gestion de l'effort, la discipline et la résilience mentale. Les participants reçoivent des écussons pour avoir bouclé 4 ou 5 tours, tandis que ceux qui terminent les 6 tours reçoivent une médaille et peuvent figurer au classement national. Les coureurs les plus rapides de chaque catégorie remportent des récompenses, et les meilleurs concurrents ont la possibilité de gagner des prix supplémentaires lors d'une épreuve de championnat. Des points de ravitaillement sont mis à disposition, et les participants sont encouragés à apporter leur propre eau et leur équipement.
