About this event
In 2012, the Patagonian International Marathon became the first marathon held in Torres del Paine National Park by Racing Patagonia, taking place every September (except 2020) in the park or its surroundings. Three distances are offered: 10 km (140mD+), 21 km (450mD+) and 42 km (1020mD+), with breathtaking scenery on the park's mountains. The course, on gravel roads, can provide punishing weather and attracts runners from around the world seeking a unique Patagonia experience.
In 2012, the Patagonian International Marathon was the first marathon organized in the Torres del Paine National Park by the Racing Patagonia. Since that first edition, it has been held annually, every year (except 2020 🦠), in September 🗓️, in the park or nearby. This international event 🌎 brings runners from over 65 countries, with one dream in mind: to run in one of the most pristine places on the planet! But beware, the beauty of these remote places can also throw unpredictable weather at you implacable, or sometimes hostile 😱 (don’t be scared) … We recommend checking the photos 📸 from previous editions on the organizer’s site so you can get a better idea when choosing your distance run ↔️, to select your gear 👕, and plan your trip. ✈️
So it's in the magnificent Torres del Paine National Park 🏔️, founded in May 1959 and declared biosphere reserve ♻️ in April 1978, that we will meet 📍. This reserve is undoubtedly one of the most unique and stunning places on our planet 🗺️. This true masterpiece of nature 🍃 took more than 70 million years and involved various geological processes to create itself. For a weekend, it will be the privileged and protected playground for trail runners from around the world. In the footsteps 🐾 of the guanaco, the mara, the huemul, the culpeo, the pudu puda and Florent Pagny, you will be able to line up for one of 3️⃣ distances offered by the event. Distances will be: 10 km for 140mD+, 21 km for 450mD+ and 42 km for 1020mD+. The race will primarily take place on gravel roads, characterized by numerous switchbacks and steep climbs 📈. All race courses feature a landscape stunning, with the best views 🔭 of the park’s main mountains ⛰️ : Cerro Paine Grande, Cuernos del Paine, Cerro Almirante Nieto, and Torres del Paine. The finish line 🏁 for all distances will be located just a few meters from the Las Torres Reserve reception center (to be confirmed). Whether you are a traveler seeking new experiences, a trail enthusiast or an elite runner, you’re welcome to feel the energy of nature 🔋 and experience the magic 🪄 of the Patagonian International Marathon! 🙌🏼
Want to discover a bit more about the capital before catching your flight 🛩️? In Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱, you can climb the San Cristóbal Hill, by funicular 🚠, which rises to 850m elevation. You’ll find a statue of the 22-meter Blessed Virgin Mary, an amphitheater, and a chapel ⛪️. And since this country is made of relief, it’s another hill you can climb as well, the one named Santa Lucía Hill. Located in the city center, at its summit you’ll find the Castle (Anne) Hidalgo. Sky Costanera is another vantage point over the city if the first two don't satisfy you 😅. Viña Cousino Macul, Barrio Lastarria, the Casa La Chascona Museum, Araucano Park or the Metropolitan Cathedral are must-see places in the city 👍🏼. For the culinary scene 🍽️, caldillo de congrio or congrio in court-bouillon is one of the most popular dishes in Chile with its base of fish stock 🐟, simmered in white wine. Not very appetizing said like that, but we promise it’s delicious 😆. This time with spider crab, chupe de Centolla is often served with onions 🧅, peppers 🫑, cream, chili 🌶️, and various spices 🥵. To finish, the pastel de choclo is literally a corncake with a gratin topping 🌽, made with a meat filling and onions, similar to the empanada 🥟 you may know. 😋
Nos vemos pronto en Chile ! 👋🏼
