The Patou Trail, it’s five distances : a kilometer vertical of 3,5 km for the boldest, “ The Village Tour of Villages » at 11 km with 600m D+ and the one of 20 km with a 1250m D+. It gets tougher with the “ Skyrace ” of 22 km (2200m D+) and the marathon, in solo or as a relay to spread the effort, which offers climbs of 3300m D+. Yes Patou is nice, but Patou is demanding! 😠
Saint-Lary-Soulan, the course’s setting, isn’t just a welcoming and warm town beloved by cycling Tour de France fans. It is also a thermal resort ideally located, not far from Spain, in the heart of the Pyrenees, in the Aure valley. Yes, Patou offers unique panoramas for running! 🔭
If you opt for the emblematic marathon, you’ll be starting in the hameau de Granges de Grascoueu and then head to the station at the heart of the commune of Soulan, before a descent back to the valley, not far from Tramezaïgues. After that, brace yourself: Patou can be unforgiving. Then it’s off to the lacs de Consaterre with a substantial elevation gain, but nestled in wild nature to admire. Then, aim for the finish!
Want to try the Skyrace? It’s technical! You’ll first conquer the heights of the village of Saint-Lary-Soulan before tackling the Pichebrou Peak at 2200 m above sea level. Expect burning calves and a breathtaking 360° view. ⛰️
After your high mountain adventure, take advantage of the vacation vibes in the south at that time to enjoy a terrace meal with Porc noir de Bigorre accompanied by delicious haricot tarbais. 🫘
