Runthrough Ascona-Locarno

The organization RunTrough, at the helm of many incredible races, has decided to strike again with the Ascona-Locarno). A new trail event at the heart of the Alps, mountains and lush greenery 💚. The event will take place at the end of the month of October, so participants should still plan for some warm clothes because at this time of year, you’re never sure! 🥶 But, before fine-tuning your gear, you’ll need to pick your distance—there will be three: 42 km, 24 km and for the boldest one a vertical kilometer 🤪. There will be plenty for everyone and for all levels 😉, with three distances—the Swiss are generous, more for chocolate usually, but we’ll take it anyway! 🍫

Want to know a little more about the courses? Here we go... 🤐 We’ll start with the biggest, most imposing race, the 42 km and its 2 486 mD+ 👑. It’s a beautiful challenge and you’ll need to be well trained to reach the finish 💪. Nature should give you a little push, as the landscapes of the race are extraordinary 🤩. You’ll be among the mountains 🌄, at the summit of Pizzo Leone, which even borrowed its name from an explorer! 🕵️‍♀️ At the top of this mountain, at 1 600 meters exactly, you’ll be able to glimpse the beautiful colors of the Lake Maggiore 🏞️. Keep your eyes peeled—you might even spot the Mont Rose 🩷, which is the fourth Alpine summit and the first summit in Switzerland. On this course too, your legs won’t be spared 🦵, but your eyes will feast. It’s a blessing in disguise! And, finally to top it off: the vertical kilometer 🍒. For this race, the most motivated will tackle the stairs of the Mont-Sacré, which lead to the church of the Madonna Del Sasso! 🪜 At the church ⛪, on the square, you’ll have a vantage point over the mountains and the lake 👀. You’ll truly be at the heart of Mother Nature’s humble dwelling, where only birdsong can interrupt you 🧘. The children will also have their moment of glory! A 2 km race is reserved for them to impress their friends 😌.

Finish the elevation gain and sweating, time to relax 💆. The region of Ascona-Locarno is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature’s regenerative powers 🌿. You’ll have seen it from all viewpoints (that’s saying something), but it’s worth getting closer: the Lake Maggiore ☝️. It’ll give you a big breath of fresh air! 🧊 After, if you want, you can wander the narrow streets of the historic center of Ascona ! 🎨 And finally, a not-to-miss option to rest are the Locarno Thermal Baths ⛲. There you can enjoy treatments, massages, all with a stunning view of the mountains and the lake 🥰.
