Le semi-marathon Eco-Extreme de l'île de Santa Cruz est un défi de 21 km en pleine nature, unique en son genre dans le Pacifique. Partant du niveau de la mer à Prisoners Cove, le parcours grimpe à travers des hautes terres accidentées, des sommets et des vallées avant de revenir sur ses pas dans un circuit exigeant en forme de trèfle. Les sections escarpées à voie unique et le dénivelé constant rendent cet événement accessible uniquement aux coureurs expérimentés à la recherche d'un véritable défi. La participation est limitée par le Service des parcs nationaux, garantissant une expérience exclusive qui met en valeur la beauté sauvage du parc national des Channel Islands.
Les athlètes sont transportés par un bateau privé Island Packers, souvent accompagné d'observations de baleines et de dauphins, donnant le ton à une aventure extraordinaire. À l'arrivée, les concurrents partagent un déjeuner gratuit après la course sur l'île tout en réfléchissant à l'un des parcours les plus reculés et les plus pittoresques de la côte ouest.
