About this event

Craving a race that blends history with Mediterranean charm? Elche welcomes you to the Media Elche, the oldest half-marathon in the world (since 1968). A flat and fast 21.097 km course through Elche and its palm oasis, with an option for a 10 km on the same route. Between monuments, tapas, and local vibes, it’s a running weekend in Spain not to miss.

Want a race with as much history as the king of Spain Felipe IV? 🤴

Headed to Elche, that hidden gem on the Costa Blanca that will make you forget that March is still a bit gray and chilly. Instead? Sunshine, palm trees, and guaranteed Mediterranean vibes! ☀️ The Media Elche is the oldest half marathon in the world 🌍 since 1968, and honestly, when you have decades of history behind you, you don’t mess with the organization. It’s serious, well.tested and approved by generations of runners who wore SHORT SHORTS 🩳 and who had REALLY thick mustaches! 🥸 Elche is a Mediterranean city thousands of years old, so historic charm is guaranteed! Between the monuments, the local atmosphere, and that typical Spanish easygoing vibe, you’ll wonder if you came to run or to vacation. Spoiler: you’ll do both! ✈️ Plus you’ll have several distances to choose from multiple distances, it’s like Christmas 🎄, but in spring! 🌸

Let’s cut to the chase: you’ll have the choice between a half marathon and a 10K. The half is the legendary distance, the one that makes you a real runner in the eyes of your mother-in-law 👀 (yes, even she’ll be impressed). 21.097 km of pure enjoyment through Elche, its palm trees, its history and its contagious good mood 😁. It’s the kind of race where you finish with a smile, even if your legs 🦵 politely remind you they’d love a sofa 🛋️ and a cool lemonade 🍹. But hey, the satisfaction of finishing a half in Spain is priceless (well, it has a price—the entry fee—but you get the idea 😉). The 10K comes with the exact same route as the first 10 km of the half marathon, so same scenery, same vibe... just shorter! 😜 Perfect for your friend who always uses the excuse “I’m not in enough shape for a half” or “My knee hurts since 2002.” No more excuses, we’re all in! And the ultimate bonus? You’ll all finish in the same place, ready to enjoy tapas together 🥘. The course is flat and fast, passing through the city center of Elche, its famous palm forest. Not 10 palm trees for show, no, we’re talking about 200,000 palm trees! 🌴 It’s simple: if you encounter more elevation than palm trees 📈 during your race, you’ve picked the wrong event ❌ (or you’re using your brother-in-law’s GPS that always sends you down unlikely paths 🗺️). The pavement is smooth, corners are not too tight, and the clock... well, the clock should smile at you! ⏱️ This is the kind of course where you can go for a personal best without wrecking your knees on treacherous climbs. And if you don’t beat your PR? You can always blame the tapas from the night before 😅.

Beyond the race (which, let’s be honest, is already fabulous), there’s everything around it! Elche has a palm forest listed as UNESCO World Heritage, the Palmeral of Elche, which is absolutely the largest in Europe! 🇪🇺 So after your race, if your legs still carry you, go exploring there. It’s magical, calming, and it smells like the south. The city also overflows with small restaurants 🍽️ where you can treat yourself to real regional cuisine typical: tapas varieties, paella local, regional wines 🍷 (enjoy responsibly 👍), and that friendly vibe you only find in Spain 🥳. Don’t hesitate to wander through the historic center 🏛️, with its cobbled streets and shaded squares where locals sip coffee on terraces ☕️ as if time didn’t exist. By the way, does time even exist in Spain? Because we seriously wonder! 😎 For culture lovers, the Basilica of Santa María is worth a visit, as is the Archaeological Museum which traces the city’s history. If you’re not done, the seaside is nearby—Alicante and Santa Pola are each a half-hour drive away 🚗. In short, you’ve got enough to fill your entire weekend! And if you’re traveling with non-runners (those strange creatures who prefer to sleep on Sunday mornings 😴), they’ll find their happiness there too.

So, see you at Elche under the shade of the palm trees? 🌴
