Between Malta and Zurrieq, take part in a road race in mid-November with the half marathon or the 10 km, and even a Kids Race of 1.5 km for children. A human-scale event, the renovated course offers PR potential and passes through Zurrieq as well as the surrounding villages (Qrendi, Mqabba, Kirkop, Hal-Far) with no elevation gain, while leaving room for discovery breaks such as the Blue Grotto and Marsaxlokk.
The city of Zurich? the Barcelona Marathon? 🤔 Nope, we’re not talking about that here, but about the small village of Zurrieq and its road race! The Zurrieq Half Marathon & 10 km has long had a bad reputation because of the state of its roads, but that era is over! 🤩 Since 2013, the course has changed, more inviting and with resurfaced roads, enough to chase your PR on the distance! 😝 The town of Zurrieq has preserved its authenticity, so you’ll discover Malta in its simplest form! ✨
Under the cool temperatures of mid-November, you can choose to start a half marathon or a 10 km (as the race name suggests 🤓). And since it’s a small-scale event, kids are also invited to join the fun with a 1.5 km Kids Race! 🧒 The race route will take you to visit Zurrieq and the other traditional villages around: Qrendi, Mqabba, Żab Qirkop and Hal-Far! 🏘️ The oldest villages on the island will unfold to the rhythm of your strides, and you might not want to stop until the finish line; elevation won’t be an issue ❌. But watch out not to get lost in a winding alley 🤫. And for those who enjoy taking time to take in the landscapes, the 10 km route can also be done by walking. So, ready to go? 😎
You don’t want to stop, even after crossing the finish line? 🏁 Just a few kilometers away, discover the majestic Blue Grotto and its emerald waters 🌊. For a moment of relaxation, the picturesque village of Marsaxlokk welcomes you with its traditional fish market 🐠, perfect for a tasty post-run lunch to treat your stomach 🤤. If you’re history-minded, the megalithic site of Ħaġar Qim, a UNESCO World Heritage site 🌍, is a must-see 🖼️. For a touch of urban flair 🏙️, wander the charming streets of Valletta, the capital, filled with cafes and traditional shops ☝️.
