About this event
Between the south and north slopes of Montgenèvre, the Snow Race offers two snow formats: the short event Le Rocher Diseur, an 11 km loop, and the Snow Race – Tour des Forts, a 22 km course with two loops linking Gondrans and Chalvet. The EX-CLU-SIF route goes through larch forests and offers views of the valley, with a start from Monginevro and an all-snow course in an alpine setting.
Drop your snowboard, snow race ahead 🏂
It’s in the Hautes-Alpes department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cône-Côte d'Azur where the town of Montgenèvre sits. Nestled between the Clarée valley and the Suse valley (with an “s”, not like grandma Tuche’s drink), it hosts the Montgenèvre Snow Race for its 11th edition ! In this late January, the thermometer 🌡️ will swing between -2°C and 8°C… so we recommend you throw on your snow clothes the warmest 🧣. The cooler temps are likely due to the 1860m elevation where the station sits 😅. We hope you’ve prepared your lungs for one of the two races of the day, because the region doesn’t give up much oxygen 😮💨. “ Le Rocher Diseur” is a loop of 11 km, perfect for discovering the snow running ❄️. While the main snow race 👸🏼, the “ Snow Race – Tour des Forts ” of 22 km, consists of two loops on the snowy and hard-packed trails, linking the two sides of Montgenèvre, Gondrans and Chalvet.
Veni, vidi, certi! 🏃🏼♂️
“ I came, I saw, I ran ” said the famous Jules*. It’s due to its closeness to the Italian border 🇮🇹 that this somewhat remodeled quote makes sense. The start will therefore be from Montgenèvre, France’s oldest ski resort 🎿, renowned for its snow reliability, its stunning panoramas, and its 300 days of sunshine per year ☀️. For this 12th edition, the association Courir en Briançonnais has prepared an EX-CLU-SIF 🎆! The new route stays in the larch forest, not to be confused with its friend the pine 🌲, and will deliver a parcours all in snow ☃️. The loop of 11 km, “Le Rocher Diseur” won’t stop you from listening to your best Spotify playlist 🎧. This course, located on the south face of the station, will let you see the fantastic views of the peaks and the Valley of the Durance. This restless river rises from the slopes of the parking the Angels' peak 👼🏼. For the Snow Race – Tour des Forts in 22 km, you’ll discover the richness of two sides, between Le Chalvet and Les Gondrans. Closer to the nature 🍃 than previous editions, you’ll first loop around the wood of Sestrières 🌳 to the belvedere, on the north side of the station. The finish will join the second side of Montgenèvre, south side which will thus take the Rocher “Deezer " 🎶 (if you didn’t get it earlier). No matter which route you choose, the wild sectors 🐆 between larch forests and open ridges will leave you with extraordinary images of the Briançonnais panorama. 🏔️
Giantly good deal sleds 🛷
Are you in such a hurry to take on your first sporting challenge of the year? Lucky for you, not far away, over toward Briançon, the Le Trail Blanc Vauban By Night is an event that takes place at the beginning of January. If you prefer the summer warmth 😎, you’ll have the choice between the Vauban Urban Trail or the Névache-Val des Près-Briançon half-marathon. From a culinary viewpoint 🍽️you can Veni sample the tourtons of Champsaur. But also Vidi, the spelt of Haute-Provence, a rustic herb with a flavor unchanged even after nearly 10 000 years. And finally Vici, Sisteron lamb 🐑, a gentle and a tender meat, rare, also called César*.
We managed to complete the loop, right? And you, will you be able to do it? 🤔
